The question is, why didn't the management see this? Utterly disgusting waste of 35 million and valuable squad place.

A genuinely terrible signing.

being able to handle the physicality of the PL is not really about size alone.
There are players his build who certainly can.
I assume the club believed he could adapt.

Utterly disgusting?
Nah.

He is right though Jay, £35m was a stupid amount to spend on him. Its not like he had been putting in David Silva or Santi Cazorla performances prior to being bought, admittedly nobody knew those 2 would be a success in the Prem, but you were gambling on their outright football level.

Vieira didn't come close to either player when he was signed, so it was a signing that should really have taken that into account - i.e. lower transfer fee or don't buy at all.

Extremely talented footballer , not able to adapt to the PL.
Happens.
Transfers can work or fail , but the people making the decisions are best placed to make them. They have a good hit rate.
Fans clueless, so best ignored when it comes to player assessment , beyond just 'pub talk' banter

How do you conclude he’s extremely talented exactly, he’s had about two decent moments whilst with us that anyone could have had.

Haven’t really seen much evidence of real talent tbh, been very underhwelming in reality.

He could have worked on his physique which is what some footballers do, so that he could deal with the PL, it doesn’t look like he has at all.

To me he doesn’t seem the kind of player that has the hunger to do anything it takes to succeed.

Not too fussed about him leaving, he’s not impressed at all.

Jay you could take one look at Santi and you would say "baller", the same with David Silva. The first time I saw Vieira I was "meh". The other 2 had standout quality, I was never struck with that with Vieira

English football is like no other beast, you can't get used to the pace and physicality by playing abroad. Seriously baffled by this decision.[/quote]

Arteta's written him off, he ain't coming back. He'll be sold next summer or loaned out again till his contract expires.

I hope so, he’s been very poor, not good enough for Arsenal and too lightweight, Porto really stitched us up.

Don’t think they stitched us up, he has bags of ability but really was just too soft on the ball.

He should stay there.

Don't think he'll ever be what we need in midfield, too lightweight.

Nwaneri already better and is 17.

Porto got the deal of the century. Sold him to us for 35 mil and took him back with no obligation to buy.

He's been recalled from loan, according to reports in Portugal.
