I think we still have to listen to stuffs like "Long ball from Dier, the penalty winner in the WC to Ali, who scored in the quarter final, he moves forward and give a through ball to Trippier the scorer of one of the most beautifully taken free kick in the WC, and waiting in front is the WC top scorer, Kane bla bla bla..."...

At least we won't have to hear, "World champion to another world champ. What a beautiful take by world champion. And he lays it off to world champion... AND WORLD CHAMPION AND GOLDEN BOOT WINNER SCORES!!!!"

"England are 1-0 up at Burnley. The pressure is on."

The better team won, i don't agree with Adams this time.

Kane and Alli were both absymal though.

Kane ain't all that. he's effective but he's basically Alan Shearer. Great old fashioned striker but not true World Class. Its similar with Lukaku. Top Class effective players.

Alli is like Teddy Sheringham, he's not a midfielder, hes basically a second striker. I wouldn't even classify him as top class, he's a good young player who is effective at spurs, nothing more yet. Southgate used him in a system which destroyed his stamina, watching how he played, when England had the ball, he just ran forward into the box or to play knock ons then had to run back and try to defend off the ball. Same with Lingaard. They aren't proper midfielders, they are second strikers/attackers at best attacking mids.

Like Matelot said. England beat two Championship level teams in Tunisia and Sweden, a League 2 standard team in Panama, edged out a Colombia side who where missing their best and only proper world class player in James and then lost against two proper quality sides in Belgium and Croatia.

They did the best they could, this is England's true level man. They never bottled it, that's when your better than the team your facing but you don't get it done.

Adams said what an Arsenal man would have said on instinct.

England had a decent World Cup. Nothing magnificent, but alright. They overcame teams they were expected to and fell to one of similar stature

The England team is usually picked on popularity rather than ability, they always shy away from skillful ball players in favour of runners and set play experts, which will only take you so far.Spurs players have always been popular with England selection because of the clubs non threatening attitude to competing for trophies and their limited style of play.
Adams probably wonders why he and his Arsenal teammates were often overlooked at major tournaments while spurs the 16th most successful club side in English football have had more players represent England than anybody else..

Don't agree with this England did well or over achieved rubbish !! How did they over achieve ? Based on who they played and won/lost to they did exactly what I expected them to do, it just so happens the freak of nature that made all of the big boys crash out of the tournament early allowed England to get to the semi final.

But as already said, England beat some shit teams. I think there are 5 tiers of tournament international football:
Tier 1 - Spain, Germany, Brazil etc
Tier 2 - France, Netherlands, Italy etc
Tier 3 - England, Croatia, Sweden etc
Tier 4 - Bulgaria, Nigeria, S Korea etc
Tier 5 - Panama, Cyprus, Finland etc

England will almost always lose to tier 1 and 2 teams. They will be 50/50 against other tier 3 teams. They will almost always beat tier 4 and 5 teams. The England team are average, they like to think they can hang with the big boys but they can't. The cheek of the commentator yesterday, "England have proved they can mix it with anyone in the world now" :rofll: :rofll: You absolute cock !

The big boys will have 2 or 3 talismanic players, some have 3 or 4. England had Harry Kane, stop Harry Kane and England flop. England were a set piece team and that ultimately was their undoing. Delle Alli proved just how shit he is, Sterling created next to nothing - albeit he was England's most threatening player, Lingard apart from his goal did nothing.

So you expected us to reach the semi finals?

Couldn't care less about who we faced. That's not in our control.

We faced teams that topped groups containing Germany and Argentina. Seeen also knocked Italy out in the play offs and finished ahead of Holland and beat France in the qualifiers. Hardly shit.

England had a decent world cup - I just can't get on with the fact people got super carried away.

We managed to avoid a lot of teams that would have beat us, so we played the hand we got dealt and got further than expected.

The boys did a good job but yesterday when they had a real tough test they failed. That I believe is because attacking wise some of our players just didn't do the business. Kane did a disappearing act and Sterling was ineffective the whole tournament.

When we didn't take our chances first half, Croatia took the initiative in the second half and in extra time were the far superior team.

No, I didn't expect them to reach the semis, but they only did because all of the top teams had an off World Cup. Its the reason why the teams that topped some groups were nothing special. Germany were shit as were Argentina. Sweden are agricultural and the epitome of average. Italy were shit through the entire World Cup qualification campaign, its why they failed to qualify for the first time in 60 years !!! Holland were dog poo through qualification as well.

So like I said, the teams England beat were either shit or bang average. But tell yourself England did well if it makes you feel better. Panama, Tunisia and Columbia England beat and some people think that England did well :dontknow:

So England are being criticised for Germany and Argentina being shit?

Ok then.

Semi final suggests we were pretty good. Again couldn't care less about who we faced. We didn't hand pick these teams to face to reach the semi final. They were there on merit. Just like us.

I think it's not only about reaching the last four. England for once look like a solid united team. They have better players in the past, but the chemistry just never there. This time England looks much better as a team. Maybe because of the Spurs connection or Southgate's seemingly likable persona or whatever.
The only thing that I don't like about this England team is actually not the team themselves, but the media. They have really overhyped England national team. The bias were ridiculous. Just watch the player rating in the quarter final or the semi. Kane and Sterling still get 6.5-7 from some of the media. Even England supporters in this forum said that they were not playing well in the last two games. Some of the journalists (and pundits) just don't know the difference between a reporter and a supporter.

I couldn't care less about which round of the tournament we reached. I only care about what teams we beat.

Were we not expected to beat Tunisia, Panama, Colombia and Sweden? If we didn't, we would have been abysmal.

It's like if Arsenal went through to a cup competition semis beating teams from the Championship and below then lost our first match again Premier League opposition, would you claim we had a magnificent campaign?

And we beat the teams that topped groups and therefore were better than Germany and Argentina.

If Arsenal reached the semi final of any cup competition after not reaching one in 28 years then I'd be delighted. Who we played wouldn't matter cos we don't hand pick these opponents which you lot obviously think we do. Maybe it's time people learned how World Cup works , the draw and how we face who we face.

We played Sutton and Lincoln on the way to winning the fa cup ffs. Apparently that fa cup was shit then and should be erased from the record books.

Dear god.

Mate, you are entitled to your opinion, but I don't see how you think England did well getting to the semi final via the easiest route they could possibly have had. They lost the only 2 games that mattered, against teams you need to beat if you want to win the thing. Thats not progress, all it has done is showed England are still an average team.

that was easy?

Facing teams that topped the groups containing Germany and argentina?

Haven't seen much of Colombia have you?

Ok then. Didn't realise you expected England to win the World Cup going in to the tournament. High expectations. Fair enough.
