Difference is there is more space and isolation in a 4-2-3-1 for the attacking players.

So that means wingers have to be capable and have quality as does the no10.

Basically we'll see more of our players exposed who aren't any good when not hiding in a 4-3-3 just pinging the ball around back and forth.

We need a LW so Saka isn't doubled up on and Odegaard better brush up real soon at the 10.

When the left full back and left midfielder ( for us no.8, Rice or Merino) combines well the LW will be productive.
Last season, MLS was learning on the job , and went through trial and error ( messed up today as well), hence the LW became bit tentative. Besides, Odegaard was out ,hence other makeshift arrangements had to be made ( Trossard, Nwaneri trying to pick up the mantle), therefore structure of the forward line was disturbed. It didn't help when Saka was out and Odegaard came back half cooked.
Hopefully this season those problems will be well behind us, and will see a regular structure reappear.

You got that last sentence wrong DG.

Having a good LW won't stop Saka from getting double teamed because its usually the LB + one of either the left mid or wide forward that comes back to help the LB on Saka's side of the pitch. If you have a strong LW at worst all that will happen is the RB won't go too far from him, but when the play shifts over to the LW side of the pitch the RB will be there plus one of the right mid or right forward will track back to double up if needed.

So we lost a friendly to spurs. big deal. If they had lost, they'd all say "where's your trophy, Gooners?? don't matter, just a friendly!" shameless two league title c****.

the issue is pre-season. It's become WAAAAAYY to hyped up in recent times. the actual results or even performances mean shit. When Wenger sides played St. Albans many years ago, or went to Scandinavia or Austria, it wasn't that important.

Wenger wasn't under any pressure to win big trophies or justify his meager spending. He freely played academy players in those games.

We on the other hand put out our first team squad because Arteta has hollowed out the academy, and needs to justify his €1bn squad.

Do we still play Barnet in our pre-season schedule? I know we used to, will be a shame if we broke from tradition to chase money

Well I mean our threat won't be so lopsided, teams know if they lock down our right wing we're almost toothless, yes they will still double up Saka, but having an equal threatening left wing means teams will be overwhelmed and have to double up both wings allowing more space for others and less room for error.

That's the hope, that's what PSG have.

Arteta has a squad capable of winning the league. Left wing is the only weak spot unless the arrival of zubimendi unlocks martinelli.

You couldn't make that shit up.

Yeah its an option I suppose but not one I think is planned for Gyokeres.

I have said this multiple times, I don't think Martinelli is the problem, its the system thats the problem. Martinelli has looked increasingly better in games where MLS, Calafiori and Rice get forward. Any one of them provides Martinelli with an option, an option Saka ALWAYS has. With either Calafiori/MLS providing the overlap and Rice pushing up Martinelli then has the same options Saka has (with White/Timber and Odegaard).

As it stands Martinelli is isolated too much, give him an overlap then that dismantles any double team on him. Give him Rice or Merino then he can pass and move, the one/two becomes an option.

Spot on with that, trouble is our manager is still trying to fit square pegs in round holes.
