England's four Champions League places at risk?

Postby UFGN » Thu Mar 14, 2013 3:38 am

With no premier league teams in the quarter finals of the CL, how serious is the potential risk that the "coefficiency" ranking system could see one of England's four places awarded to someone else?

Uefa are never one to miss a chance for a bit of England bashing. If this happens again I think they might just start finding a case to bust us down to three places.

Don't think so. Remember we're number one in the rankings and we can drop a few places and still have 4 places.

I'll be surprised if Italy aren't before us, their performance in the cl has been shite over the last few years. An English team has made the quarter finals every year for 17 years.

If anything, they should just take it away from pa liga, they only really need 2 of the 4 places....

Not at risk. We're doing fine in Europe. There are three English teams in EL. EL counts too. Two will most likely make it to the QF stages as well. The coefficient points is based on BOTH the CL and EL.

Someone mentioned it in another thread.

Germany will overtake us soon, no doubt but Italy are a little way off yet.

How could Germany overtake us? Premier League is best in the world.

We beat Germany's best 2-0 on their own patch missing our 2 best players. We would walk the Bundesliga. FACT.

True. The germans may make out they are good but you always can rely on the English to beat them (which we've been doing since 1918) and put them back down a few pegs

they were also missing schweinsteiger and ribery...also 2 of their best players.

and we lost against schalke in the groupe stage...

but yes, overall I think it would be a battle betwenn us, bayern and dortmund in the bundesliga

....and where would that put
Schalke
Man United
Man City
Chelsea
Spurs
Liverpool

in such a league?

We're way off the German top 3 IMO, just as were falling further away from the English Top 4.

All of this talk of an English decline is overblown. England have had a representative in the final in 2012, 2011, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005 and two in 2008. I'm confident this season is nothing but a blip and there'll be a couple of teams in the quarter-finals next season.

Bump

This was just discussed on Sky and Jamie Carragher was spot on.

The fourth CL spot is at risk. England's Coefficient score has been shite recently and we can't complain. Prem teams' performance in the Europa also counts.

This is real, and could happen as soon as 2017/18
