Mayweather vs Ortiz

Mayweather vs Ortiz

Postby gzagee » Sun Jul 03, 2011 11:35 am

Sept 17, at MGM Garden Arena

Should be a good tear-up. If anyone saw the Ortiz v Berto fight it was arguably the fight of the year so far. Ortiz showed he still has heart to ally that big punching power. Berto underestimated him and got his belt took.

In the press conference Mayweather gave Ortiz much respect. Probably trying to boost the credibility of HBO's PPV deal.

I cannae wait! :)

So I didn't see the fight how did it go? I heard that it was somewhat contraversial the way he won?

From what I read Ortiz put in an illegal blow and the ref called it and allowed a quick time out to ready themselves (I don't know the official name for that is). Ortiz puts down his guard and apologises to Mayweather for the illegal blow and at that point the referee had not said "fight" to signal it is back on and Mayweather just lays him out for the KO and the win is given.

Actually, I just watched it, it was legal, but it wasn't exactly clean. It was a cheap shot for sure.

It's legal if the ref hasn't called the fight back on? Since when? lol

He did call the fight back on, he just didn't call the time back in. It was the ref's f**k up! A cheap shot from Floyd, but absolutely legal.

Rev didn't see it, he only read about it. And from what I saw he did call the fight back on and that is what all the sports reports say as well, even ESPN, but Ortiz wanted to keep on saying sorry instead of fight.

Can't believe I didn't watch this! :(

I'm surprised Ortiz wasn't disqualified because it was a hell of alot more than you're average headbutt! But it would have been nice for Maywether to be the nice guy for a change and put that ugly incident to bed... instead he does that!!! Ortiz' hands weren't even by his side, they were still either side of Maywether. There wasn't a clear touch of gloves so I don't see how it could be legal.

Anyone watch the fight? Who was looking the better fighter?

After watching that video I really dont see what people are complaining about...

For starters that Headbutt was ridiculous, it looked 100% meant and secondly all Flloyd did was take advantage of Otiz's stupidity. He spent a good 15 seconds apologising for that heatbutt, they then came in, had a slight touch of gloves and he just stands there watching.

That outburst at the end was also halariou

This bit (in bold) was stupid! He should have just got on with things... BUT! Just because the gloves made contact doesn't mean that the fighters "touched gloves". The replay shown post match isn't clear, but during the fight you could see that Ortiz still had his arms down and wide open.

Mayweather is a t**t o the highest order but Ortiz was an idiot. The ref clearly tells them to get on with it, and even after Mayweather hits him once he's looking at the ref like as if for some instruction.

Still doesn't take away from the fact that Mayweather, despite having a massive mouth, is afraid to fight Pacquiao.
