Bendtner off to Sporting Lisbon?

Bendtner off to Sporting Lisbon?

Postby TRA Dial Square » Thu Jul 28, 2011 1:13 pm

Nicklas Bendtner’s summer long search for a new club appears to have come to an end with Portuguese publication Correio da Manhã claiming that Sporting Lisbon will unveil the Dane as their latest signing ahead of a friendly match with Valencia on Saturday.

The 23-year-old striker has not featured in any of Arsenal’s pre-season matches with Arsene Wenger happy to allow the player to stay in London and negotiate his move away from the Emirates. Despite reported interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Everton it appears that Sporting have stolen a march on their rivals by laying down suitably enticing terms for the lanky hitman.

Yesterday Bendtner’s father told tipsbladet.dk: “The status right now is that we’ve got a lot to work with. There are bids for Nicklas there, so it’s a luxury. Now we have to find out which club is right.

“Some clubs we can reject right away, others we keep working with. We have a very good cooperation with Arsenal about all this.”

It remains to be see what fee Arsenal will draw from the sale of Bendtner although it is expected to be in the region of £8 million.

Thanks to @gunnerblog for the heads up.

Why Bendy? WHY?!

If you had offers from Dortmund and Everton, you wouldn't be going to Sporting Lisbon, that is where players make their name and leave, not make their name and join.

His old man is a stupid old prick.

That might be Bendy's choice.

....

Some of us have this really bad tendency to be rude about Arsenal player's when they leave the club and therefore no longer represent us; but save it for those who deserve it such as Adebayor & Hleb.

Agreed, Nick wasn't a prick really, he was just overly confident.

Oh well seems it was all lies, anyway.

Sporting Clube de Portugal sporting director Carlos Freitas has dismissed reports Nicklas Bendtner is set to join.

Arsene Wenger revealed last week that Bendtner had been given time off to "to sort out his future" and the Arsenal striker was photographed in Portugal. Borussia Dortmund had also been linked to the Dane, but it appeared Sporting had won the race.

It was widely reported that he was due to complete a £9 million move this weekend, freeing up funds for Wenger to bolster his squad in other areas. However, Sporting have now dismissed the claims.

"There is no truth in this news," Freitas told a press conference. "Bendtner is just as close to joining Sporting as [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Didier] Drogba or [Bojan] Krkic. It is pure fiction."

Bendtner is one of three Arsenal players expected to leave this summer, with Emmanuel Eboue and Manuel Almunia also not part of Wenger's plans.
