RFL confirms Super League will comprise 14 teams

Postby Trina » Tue Jul 19, 2011 11:51 am

THE RFL has confirmed that the 13 clubs joining Widnes Vikings in Super League for the next three seasons will be announced on Tuesday, July 26 at 11am.

Widnes were awarded a licence in March, allowing them time to make the transition from being a Co-operative Championship club to operating in Super League on a full-time, fully professional basis.

Applications from the existing 14 Engage Super League clubs were submitted in April, and along with the application from Co-operative Championship club Halifax, are currently being assessed by the RFL Executive and a number of external advisors.

Nigel Wood, the RFL’s chief executive, said: “The independent RFL board will ultimately decide which of the 15 clubs will be awarded the 13 remaining licences, and their decisions will be based on the detailed and comprehensive assessment of each club’s application, a process which is very close to completion.”THE RFL has confirmed that the 13 clubs joining Widnes Vikings in Super League for the next three seasons will be announced on Tuesday, July 26 at 11am.

The obvious ones of Harlequins and Crusaders won't both go. Be a shame that Wakey go but they should of thought about their finances a bit more.

Really feel for Wakefield. Yet Widnes get in, They have been in admin about 3 times. Quins have no support.
If anything Leigh should be in SL.

Frankly, neither Crusaders nor Wakefield should have got the license, in their current states. Infrastructures of both need massive overhauls.

Wake have now got the money. I dont support them, but from what I have read and heard they now have the finance to do it all.

Wakey lie about everything though. Been lying about their stadium for about 14 years now. They only let them in super league the first time cos they promised to sort it and even played games at Oakwell when they were on TV so the embarrassment of a stadium wasn't seen!
