He was absolutley sensational today... kept us in it with some of his saved but becuase of his previous goalkeeping mistakes, he still dosnt fill me with 100% confidence in goal.
Lets not forget he had a 'semi-flap' today when challenging Adebayor.

Still, its great to see the lad having a good run of form and hopefully he can be the key to us challenging for the title this year

That "semi-flap" was actually a stroke of genius. No-one else challenged Adebayor, so it actually looked like his semi-flap was what put Adebayor off! Also, he slapped Adebayor in the process... he knew exactly what he was doing, he's a genius!

One other thing that i didn't mention was that in the last 4 games or so, he hasn't let conceding get to him, i mean he could have bottled it at Chelsea but in the end he kept it at 2, and there was nothing he could do for the other goals, one was a pure fluke and the other, no goalkeeper would have saved.

Maybe he won't become the long term Number 1 we all want but in this form there is no reason he couldn't be.

His entire mentality has changed, i just hope AW has the guts to keep playing long after Almunia returns to fitness.

I always said and though that had the potential to be number 1 at arsenal but after some horrible mistakes in pre-season etc I really though: "shit!, this time I really need to change my opinion about him. he's maybe not as good as I though" but no, I was right. the guy is quality. it was a mental block!! I now hope that wenger will not put almunia back in goal. flappy showed that he has the quality if you give him confidence.

Let's be honest though, the Flappy of last year would have stood on his line and let Adebayor have a wide open header. I forget what thread I said it in, but I'll always forgive a keeper for being to aggressive and not quite getting there. And in that case I really think he did enough to put Adebayor off. You know he thought he was getting a fist to the face as he went for that ball, and I really wish Flappy would have connected with his face.

But seriously, it was nice to see him come storming off his line for that ball.

Yeah I noticed that Adebayor thing and at the time I thought he shouldn't have gone for it because he wasn't 100% sure of getting there but in retrospect he did enough to distract him so we shouldn't really complain.

You will not see Almunia return while Fabianski is playing like this. And frankly, Fabianski has put in at least three consecutive performances that are equal to or better than anything I've seen from Almunia since 08/09.

Man of the Match against Man City - Fabianski

Throughout the 2010/11 season we're giving you the chance to choose your Arsenal Man of the Match.

Arsène Wenger's side faced Manchester City at Eastlands in the Premier League on Sunday. The game finished 3-0 and after the match we asked fans to vote for their star performer.

They voted in their thousands on Arsenal.com and selected Lukasz Fabianski as their Man of the Match.

The goalkeeper made a number of vital saves as he kept Arsenal's first clean sheet away from home this season, receiving 49 per cent of the fans' votes in our poll.

Samir Nasri finished second with 35 per cent with Marouane Chamakh and Alex Song finished third with five per cent of the vote each.

I think a large part of it as I said in the matchday thread is to do with the penalty save vs Partizan. You could see from his reaction that it meant a lot. Since then he has gone from strength to strength. I think the odd blunder can be forgiven if this consistency keeps up as we all make mistakes but i do feel he should be number 1.

I'll glady eat a huge slice of humble pie if he carries on that type of performance, confidence was always his issue. Ability wise a much better keeper than Almunia.

I think the pressure that all of our keepers were under during last season and pre season would have been unbearable for anyone and EVERYONE sticking the knife in constantly (i.e. Gooners, Sky sports, The Sun and other rags, every football fan in the world everywhere) probably exasperated the situation.

Kinda draws a comparison to the whole Rooney situation imho.

The real test for Fabianski is when he makes another schoolboy mistake. How he reacts to that will probably be the making or breaking of him. If he completely looses all confidence again, then his time will be up. If he mans up and gets on with it, we might well have a new number 1.

Regardless, there is defo no way back for Almunia! He's gone in Jan or this summer and Wenger will keep faith with Chesney/Mannone as 2nd or 3rd choice with Fabi or another keeper (depending on what happens above) as the new No.1.

At the moment, im really chuffed for the guy and i think his performances have shown a lot of character; on a similar level of Eboue when he was the main punch bag.
