Bendtner - God Saved Me

John Cross Mirror wrote:Nicklas Bendtner has relived his car crash horror and claimed 'Divine Intervention' saved his life.

Arsenal striker Bendtner admits it is a “miracle“ he is still alive after crashing his £120,000 Aston Martin on Sunday on his way into training, as exclusively revealed in the Daily Mirror .

Bendtner missed Tuesday night’s Champions League win over Olympiacos because he was still so shaken up by the smash and has trained on his own ever since.

The Danish international is hoping to return to face Blackburn on Sunday, but has given an incredible insight into the most terrifying moment of his life.

And Bendtner admits that he still cannot believe he walked from the wreckage of his car, and believes only God saved him.

Bendtner said: “Someone took care of me out there on the road. I don’t know what or who, but in a larger picture, there simply was someone who helped me. I firmly believe that it just wasn’t the time for me to leave this life.

“The police and everyone else at the scene told me I would have been dead if I hadn’t been wearing my seat belt.

“They also told me I would have been dead if I had been driving a car with a less impressive safety record. They actually called it a miracle that the accident didn’t end with me dead, or at least severely injured.

“It was a huge shock. But I do not need a psychologist to find myself after the accident. I went out driving in my other car the day after, and it was no problem.

“I feel fine, although my shoulder is very sore. I have also got a number of cuts and bruises, and my knees were smashed together when a small tree came in through the car door.

“My knees are really bruised, but there is nothing broken or torn inside.

“I have been training alone, have been well examined and have had plenty of massage on my back, which has been hurting a lot. But I am training with my team-mates again, and the plan is I can play on Sunday.

Since the crash, Bendtner has been driving around in a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, but he is keen to get another Aston Martin supercar as soon as possible.

“The car saved my life," he insisted. "The Aston Martin DBS is simply MY car, and I want a new one - exactly the same as the one that got wrecked.”

The big striker has also insisted that the accident was not down to him driving recklessly or too fast.

He says he was simply trying to avoid an oncoming car on the A1 which is why his vehicle flew off the road.

He added: “It doesn’t matter to me if anyone says I was driving too fast because I know exactly what happened second by second. I did not pass out at any time.

“Some people have claimed my speed was 100mph. I don’t know where that rubbish comes from, but it is not true.

“I wasn’t driving that fast at all - not even close. I have talked to the police, and there will be no case against me, because I simply was not driving that fast.

“The whole reason for the accident was that another car pulled in front of me in the left lane. I realised that if I didn't react I would smash directly into it.

"I had the time to think that things could go horribly wrong, that I could die right there.

"I pulled the steering wheel hard to the right to avoid the other car, but as a result I was thrown across the road and hit a number of small trees

"I finally ended up in a field with my car totally wrecked.

“I am simply relieved that I was able to get out of the car and walk away.”

I didn't realise the crash was that bad. Fair play to him for getting straight back on the pitch and making himself available for selection.

Car crashes, rolling out of nightclubs drunk with his trousers down, he's turning into Arsenal's version of Keith Moon.

Yeah when the lazy one was playing for us; he wouldn't have driven the car fast enough to injure anyone and would've missed by a country mile...

Sounds like he'd have fitted in right in with the Arsenal teams of the 70's, 80's and early 90's!

Not just Adams.
Woodcock, Mariner, Hudson, MacDonald, Merson, Nicholas, Sansom, Sunderland, Bould, Parlour, Winterburn...

I remember watching Saint and Greavsie once during the mis 80's and Greavsie saying about how the easiest place to park around Arsenal on match-days was the players car-park!
