The point is when you "had" a top striker and now you sell him on, we were supposed to replace him with someone fit for that role.

We needed to replace our 1st choice, not fall back on 2nd and 3rd choice to get us 4th, despite Nketiah having some good games fair play, but you can't tell me a top striker wouldn't of given us the belief and firepower to get over the line.

We used to win games mainly down to Henry or RVP so many times when we were under the cosh.

You want us to gamble millions on panic buy in January, or do it the right way in the summer for the long term. We don't want another.misfit kicking around for years. Let's do it right.

This is its own gamble I accept that, but it the better gamble imo. We are still 4th.

A cop out

We needed a striker in January. Needed one last summer. Failed in both

Agree, but better to do it right and not gamble. All his buys last summer bar Tavares have been great this season

Completely agree.

Terrible planning, plus if you don’t find a striker you don’t giveaway your best one.

Who said anything about a panic buy?

What's our Scout team for, making the tea's?

If there was proper planning going on we should of had a plan A,B and C, we moved quickly enough to get shot of Auba so we should of had targets, the only one they went for was Vlahovic, that in itself is an admission that they knew we needed a CF.

Also one thing I'll mention is this, when your 8th and you say "We're only going to buy the right player" that is another term for, most of these "right players" are above our station and don't want to come here, you can't hold out for players who will simply turn us down.

Maybe they're not keen on buying from outside, maybe they've decided to give academy boys more time to develop, maybe their timeline for growing the club from within doesn't match with yours.
Maybe Arteta and Edu had the backing of Ks in this , watching what's going on w/ most other clubs having knee jerk reactions.
Maybe 5th and couple more shrewd buys in summer and giving academy boys further opportunity to grow will bear mega fruit in future, just like ManU in the 90s.
It is really a small margin. Few tweaks here and there and you're suddenly challenging top dogs.
Maybe we shouldn't be so cynical and wait , watch and enjoy the development.

..........Vlahovic isn't from our academy so without sounding rude, you're talking sht.

Which I know you are because we're also already lining up buys in the summer, so don't take my comment personally but we both know this isn't the case so lets not pretend.

As DG says, we should have had plansA, B &C…..every successful business does! Of course the real damage was done when we failed to learn from the Ozil experience and awarded PEA a long and lucrative contract. That forced us into a panic disposal, rather than dropping him to the bench until he pulled himself together.

Both can't complain about chances. Especially Auba. First name in the team sheet for almost all his tenure w/ us , barring the last month.
Then he forces the leave.
Maybe another pro-Arsenal guy will show up and take over the mantle in near future.

Both can complain about chances when the manager is incapable of setting up the team to be effective offensively. We could have Ronaldo and Messi up front but if you don't give them chances they can't score. We went through periods of the worst offensive ineptness I have ever seen

If you keep missing the open net from 4-5 yards little can anyone do anything for you. Kept happening on and on and everyone complained. Old story. Their lack of goals have been compensated by ESR and Saka. 11 goals each.
Midfield has stepped up when they failed.

Our goal numbers have been pathetic for the past 2 years running. Auba missed a lot of chances this season, but we create far too few as it stands.

West Ham have scored more than us. Utd are missing 3 forwards and are ahead of us.

Auba is two goals away from breaking the Spanish record for goals scored by players arriving in January. :rofll:
