Uncle just got it now a week after his booster, ironically got it the day I really started feeling better. Hopefully he's gonna be fine with the vax but saying it's like a bad cold right now.

I'm really not sure why some are still so keen to spend effort to dispute the vaccine but I think we all have a history of wasting lots of time talking shit on here so no surprise it's still the same ;)

I think its more some of us are just curious about that if you have the vaccine and catch Covid how much difference to your symptoms does it make.

We're all a bunch of Covid veterans on here now even after 2 years of the pandemic.

I'm sure we all have a curiosity onto what the difference is between vaccinated and un-vaccinated symptoms?

So apparently there's a new variant in South Africa that's more transmissible than delta:

That's fun.

Of course something like that could come again in south africa, they only have a 21% vaccination rate. And their government is corrupt giving the vaccines to their chums rather than to the people in the slums who need it most.

Do you think there's a chance some of these "variants" are man made?

I know viruses mutate naturally but this one seems to be having a field day and all too quickly.

If the original Covid was made in a lab Wuhan, is it a far fetch to think these variants aren't also?

Exactly this.

These mutations are far more likely to occur in a widely vulnerable population.

I just hope the vaccine is still effective against it. There's a decent chance it isn't, and if that's the case, I don't see how things won't go tits up again.

............ that's the scenario that the Pharmacutical companies are hoping for.

Don't be under any illusion, these companies are for profit, they have created an entire industry based on profiting from Covid, the money is in the medicine not the cure.

Viruses tend to weaken as they evolve/mutate, so this early move is all about being safe rather than sorry

Pfzier/BioNTech said they're testing the variant against their vaccine and will know in two weeks. Will be excellent news if the vaccine is still highly effective as that would mean Moderna should be the same, and the US will still be largely protected.

The good news is both Moderna and Pfizer can get boosters for variants out in less than 100 days.

We still need to work on vaccinating the entire world, though, but it's difficult when a lot of the world doesn't have the required infrastructure for mRNA vaccines.

The Spanish Flu became more deadly in the second wave after mutations.

Israel too. We'll get real world data on how effective boosters are there.

When hell freezes over. The people will not tolerate it. And I will just ignore it like I did last time.
