Implications of Newcastle takeover on Arsenal

Postby swipe right » Sat Oct 09, 2021 1:34 am

Another huge moment in English football as one of the worlds richest groups takes over an English football club.

This will be bigger than City’s takeover. Why?
- Newcastle are already a massive club with a big following and 50,000 seater stadium.
- They are the only big club in the city so loyalties and identity are less divided.
- They are profitable so the constraints of FFP won’t bite for a few years.

What does this mean for Arsenal?
- Inflated prices in the transfer market as the Saudi’s pour hundreds of millions in to the transfer market.
- Target our young players to build their squad. We are the most vulnerable of the big clubs. We are trying to develop a talented young squad. Players like Saka, ESR, Tierney, Odegard will be targets for sure. Bigger salaries, working with top managers and talent and a better chance of winning the league and being in Europe.
- And of course another rich team pushing up the table means we move down.

Should we consider the Qatari option? What else can we do?

What we decide is of no purpose, we ultimately had a choice the Russian or a owner who has no want to be the best.
The board made sure Arsenal would decline Kronke runs all his teams the same way.
If you could have a championship hunting squad for endangered species he would pump that baby.
The truth is we may not even make the break away league if we do it will be to make up numbers

I know the consortium has more than likely done its due diligence, but I'm going to have to see Newcastle become a force before I believe it.

As a foreigner, the prospect of moving to the UK to live in or around Newcastle doesn't exactly move the needle. The city has a massive perception issue imo. It's not cosmopolitan, the NE of England seems more dreary than the rest of the country, and the city isn't gentrified enough for a young millionaire. Obviously, some people are built differently and wouldn't care, but I can't imagine world class players like Mbappe, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Verratti, etc. moving to Newcastle over places like Madrid, Milan, London, Paris, Munich, Barcelona, or even Manchester and Liverpool.

It'd be like moving to Buffalo, New York. Sure, it has nice suburbs and is less than a two hour drive from Toronto, but it's not Toronto and little about the city or immediate surrounding area is exciting—money or not.

Newcastle is going to have to massively overpay on wages to incentivize players to move there, and they'll quickly run into the upcoming FFP luxury tax as a result, though the PIF probably won't care. Newcastle will probably distort the market like Chelsea, City, and PSG before them, but I personally don't think their success is inevitable. Newcastle could become the new Everton for all we know. Though, they'll have some amazing facilities with the PIF's investments.

Honestly, Arsenal should be fine as long as there's a sound plan in place with people to properly execute it since spending hasn't been an issue, though whether that's Edu and Arteta or a new DoF and manager is yet to be seen.

It’s bye bye top four for sure. Sad we won’t see another champions league night again.

I have never been to Newcastle but my buddies that have said it was live. Now these millionaire footie players might want a live environment, they might want a quiet environment, so it will suit some and not others, but I doubt anyone will want to live in the city centre so finding quiet areas isn't a problem.

Swipey, you forget, Man City used to regularly get 30,000+ in their stadium when they were in the Championship!! They were never short of supporters

Newcastle’s rise to the top will be faster than City’s. It’s not going to make much of a difference to us because our useless owners couldn’t care less but will be interesting to see how City, Chelsea, Liverpool and United react.

Not to mention a clown for a manager, things are not looking too bright for us, another few places down the table for us.

Newcastle have a huge passionate fan base (just remember back to when Keegan had them challenging it was crazy up there), a big stadium and are all setup to challenge.

They’ll bypass us easily and will be up there in no time, their potential is huge, bigger than Man City’s.

Truth is that could be the final nail in the coffin for us, we’ve got zero chance of top 4 now, I mean come on we’ve stuck with a manager that came 8th twice and got outfoxed but our previous manager over two legs.

That’s the level of ambition with dealing with here, it’s about more than just money, it’s about the people at the top wanting to do anything they can to win, all we get from the top is apathy.

We’re likely to become a bit of a midtable mainstay now, some might argue it’s the worst place as there’s nothing to really play for, you’re not challenging at the top and not fighting to save yourself from relegation either, you just coast along being average and putting our average displays without ever getting anywhere.

Our only hope is that this lot sell up to someone like Abramovic who loves football.

It just feels like we couldn’t be further away from being a top side right now and we’re going to have to watch yet another team supersede us, it’s been a slow and steady decline but it’s happened and everyone since we decided to sell all our stars and move to the Emirates is to blame.

I am seeing a correlation... Same people who are so negative are the same ones who are most shitting their pants because Newcastle got some money.

Don't worry.
We'll be fine.

You miss several crucial points - the financial rulers are no longer based on mythical figures but on the legally filed company accounts - Newcastle even if they were to have 10 billion placed in their bank account can still only spend a maximum 185m on new players in financial year 2021/22 - whilst 185m is a lot it's nowhere near the 1.1 billion that City spent or the 1.3 billion that Chelsea spent ... indeed we ourselves spent 130m last summer alone.

Sure over the next three or four years they can increase revenue through massive sponsorship deals but that will just bring them level with the spending power of the top clubs, not allow them to spend the huge additional sums needed to catch and overtake them ...

Yes Newcastle will be a much stronger side than they are now, but no they will not be able to "Do a City" those days are long gone.
id?

One extra buyer in a market that will be flush with cash as clubs see revenue returning post Covid - will a richer Newcastle make all that much difference to our ability to retain and sign players? not sure it will, they will be less than 2% of the European marketplace even with Saudi billions.

You clearly don't understand FFP - suggest you read this https://resources.premierleague.com/premierleague/document/2021/09/23/986cb70a-d9dc-4f98-9012-7fd292da4467/PL_2021_22_Handbook_DIGITAL_23.09.pdf it's section E that covers it.

I don’t understand ffp. But I do understand that the worlds richest people don’t buy into football clubs to fight us for eighth place.
