18m is spot on for the over rated prick, overrated at Arsenal only.
This is the market currently, football is broke, get used to these losses, and lower wages, there is no way we should go near anyone wanting 6 figures a week in football's current situation

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka will become Jose Mourinho’s first signing at Roma after agreeing a deal with the Serie A side. TF for that, taxi for Xhaka

It will be strange entering a season without Xhaka. He's been a core player for a long time, over 40 appearances per season since 2016.

I believe that team unity is actually much worse than what's been displayed, and that Xhaka was the glue holding together what little there was. Without him, Arteta will have lost a key ally in the dressing room, and it might not take much for things to boil over in the new season.

Xhaka's armband incident happened just a couple of weeks before Emery got the sack. We know Xhaka was planning to leave in the Jan window for Hertha. Emery had lost his ally and by extension, the support of the dressing room. When Arteta came in, he made it a priority to change his mind and quickly re-integrated into the team without him needing to make a public apology.

The Villarreal performance (both legs) tells me the team wasn't playing for him anymore. When Xhaka was injured for the 2nd leg, we barely even tried to score. Can't wait to see how things will be when fans are making themselves heard at the Emirates.

If team unity is shredded so be it, sack all of them and start all over, I have no affinity to this team whatsoever. But if Xhaka was the glue holding it together, it kind reminds me of a saying ... the foolish man built his house upon the sand. With foundations like that its no wonder we are all over the place.

Agreed.

What was Xhaka holding together anyway? the acceptance of mediocrity?

Obviously some in the squad had enough of Arteta's BS decisions, if Xhaka was his enforcer or guy encouraging the team to just go with it then that is exactly why he needs to fk off.

Change doesn't happen when people down tools and lower their standards, Arteta is pushing sub standard practices, why would I want that to be able to continue?

He needs to face and accept his faults and fix them, not have his back massaged by similar mediocre individuals looking for an easy, comfortable ride.

ESPN transfer tracker reported today that Roma are offering 18 m but Arsenal are asking for 22m. They’re not far off so hopefully a deal gets done.

It also said Arsenal look to offload Bellerin, Guendouzi and Leno.

They do a decent job of reporting for those of us here in the States so we’ll see if that all truly happens.

Daniel Ek should throw in the extra 4 mil to get it over the line. Come on Daniel, do us a solid.

The problem with losing a 100% reliable (>40 games a season) even one as average as Xhaka is that the whole team dynamic will need to change - if we can buy an upgrade and he can slot in and play >40 games a season all good - but seeing as we already need to replace Luiz, Ryan, Odergaard and Ceballos and we have Laca, Nketiah, Chambers and Elneny all entering the last year of their contracts, where are all these magic upgrades coming from - the 20m we get for Xhaka certainly won't buy much.

Arteta wants to play the 433 that City play. Which means he needs two holding midfielders and an attacking midfielder. He has one holding midfielder in Partey and on attacking midfielder in ESR. Xhaka is not mobile enough to be the second holding midfielder in a 433. El Neny is but lacks quality. What Arteta needs is a second attacking midfielder and a third holding midfielder. That’s where Aouar and Bissouma make sense. Selling Xhaka helps fund them.

Yup I agree - but selling him before we have either of the required replacements - we've seen this go wrong so often before.
