I saw that. Very good.

I'm not sure people understand just how dedicated and talented they were. Or how much stuff they've written for other artists.

Great story.

I recall seeing another documentary about them many years ago. As you know they wrote loads of stuff for other artists as well. They spoke about Barbara Streisand and Woman in Love. They sent her a cassette tape of them singing the song themselves, and asked her if she wanted to do it. She agreed so they invited her down to their recording studio in Florida. She went into the studio and sang the song over their backing track. Maurice said when she'd finished he looked at Barry and said, "I think that's it!" She had done it in one take. What you hear on the record is that one and only take.

Oh mate
I so love babs as well
In another life I’m sure I could have been a wow round old Compton street
My heart beats faster when I hear tracks like stoney end and don’t rain on my parade

1981 and Guilty was my then girlfriends fave album and I grew to love it too. Then Face Value came out and it was my fave album of all time until Prefab Sprout took its place with Steve McQueen. As you can see I love the soppy stuff ....although to be fair I love a lot of different music, but ballads are my thing.

Didn’t know Woman in love was a one take recording...amazing!

It’s amazing how prolific Buddy Holly was as both a songwriter and a recording artist
Over 50 songs 3 quarters of which he had written before he was 22
Can you imagine how huge he would have been had he lived through the sixties
As it is he is as iconic as they come

His sound was great.

Without his influence you have to wonder if some of the greatest bands that followed would have happened. Even The Beatles.

Hugely influential mate
I know I can bring anything round to Bowie
But listen to ashes to ashes
Not only is the vocal very buddy
But it’s a sequel song to space oddity
In the same way that Peggy sue got married is a sequel to Peggy sue
There are moments in ashes that really mirror it
I think Holly was in for the long haul not just throwaway pop( not that there is anything wrong with throwaway pop)

Did you go see jersey boys mate?
Really good musical
Once again was staggered how many songs Frankie valli had made
I thought the singer in the show had a better voice than Frankie
Surely the writers took the title from Kojak’s catchphrase?

Never thought of that!

Yes their catalogue is impressive.

Never saw the musical. I'm not a big musical theatre man really.
