Best interview by an Arsenal manager in years. Thank you for that Arteta. There is no magical formula as he said. Spend big or go home

............. because unlike Wenger who could do no wrong in the eyes of the board and half the fans (even when losing) Arteta doesn't have that parachute, this is his first job and his career is on the line.

Also as I said earlier, Wenger was paid £10m a year (more than Fergie) to shield the board and just get that top 4 trophy for CL money ......... Arteta ain't on no £10m.

Wenger was paid to keep the ship steady and the show rolling even though both he and the board had downed tools and given up on being an elite team.

True. Arteta has to protect himself from the club and I doubt they would expect him to make interview like this. Now that he is in and has the fans behind him. He can use it against them

Love the way he calls it as it is - play that game over ten times and we lose every time - simply out classed but it's not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog that matters .... without massive board support (and that ain't happening) we will need to 'do a Leicester' the whole is better than the sum of the parts. Arteta is rightly setting the bar very low let's hope he can get well over it ... went up a huge amount in my estimation yesterday and let's face it you could put Pep, Klopp, Mourinho in charge of this squad and they'd struggle for top six ... at least Arteta admits that.

Both goals were pretty good. Both Laca and Nelson kept their composure and slotted in cleanly. Liked it.

Exactly this. I love it when a manager just says it as it is, upfront and without bullshitting people who've 'never worked a day in the game' so their opinions must be wrong. He probably thought he would win more than a few cups when he transferred to us as a player or at least challenge in the true sense of the word and is clearly not in the mood to settle for that as a manager; at least not publicly. By saying what he is, with the regularity that he's saying it (long may it continue) the more likely Josh Kroenke et al will have to do something to back up the usual fare they trot out. (Granted, they stumped up for Pepe but swallows and summer and all that.)
Good old Arsenal, we're proud to say that name

Liverpool had 69 per cent possession, 24 shots to Arsenal's 3, our first win against Liverpool since April 2015.

We obivously did something right.

Tbf this (with less shot attempts) is how we lose a lot of games to lesser teams, the Spurs loss being the most recent.

Defend well and take their chances is usually what gets done against us so despite some in the match day thread saying things like "We played crap" i disagree, we played like a lesser team trying to beat a better team without getting torn to shreds in the process.

Still good that he said it but not quite as dramatic as made out.

It's good that he said this after a huge win. I support him.

He needed this win. A win against a top manager.

Losing to Pep, Jose, and Klopp would have been terrible.

Now, let's beat Loldiola.

How many times was this us under Wenger, dominate possession but lose the game to a team that had a fraction of the attempts. Glad we held out for an ugly win. Glad the defence held firm too.

Arteta needs to remain open with the fans, his comments around the void of difference are good for all concerned. I like that it shows should he be the fall guy, it will be a transparent experience in relation to how much assistance he is given from the club.

Arteta concerned about the transfer funds, probably not use to not having endless money and not being able to buy the worlds best players if you feel like it.
