Giggs

Cantons was an idiot but quality. Not better than Bergkamp but impact was undeniable. Giggs is rated cos of longevity. Nothing else. Never had a stand out season

What do you guys think of this observation?

The fact Cantona is always rated higher than Bergkamp or the fact Giggs is always rated higher than Pires?

Both. Even though Cantona was quality, as Ach put it, he wasn't technically superior to Bergkamp.

Giggs was world class during his day but his longetivity makes people think that he was better than he was. He was never a generational talent. The Prem awarding him the mantle of greatest Premier League player was laughable.

In general, Arsenal players have always been underrated in the Prem. It's not a surprise. It's the same with the Invincibles. The way people cry about those 12 draws—5 of which came in the last 8 games. Sure, it was a golden chance to hit 100 points, but that's the nature of the beast: we didn't lose a single game in the Prem.

When we talk about the greatest PL midfielders too, you rarely hear people mention Gilberto. Cesc is also amongst the best midfielders in Prem history (modern era). Nah. They'd rather cream their pants with Gerrard, Lampard, and Scholes. Nothing against those great players.

Sky are the biggest platform for this United and Liverpool loving claptrap. It's full of their pundits.

Cantona isn't fit to lace Bergkamp's boots.

Rise of the digital age and increasing urbanization.

Sure, we can see what's going on around the world at a moment's notice, but we're separated by screens which takes away in-person human interaction and can create social isolation.

As for cities, it's easy to live in a city and be surrounded by strangers whom you share minimal contact with compared to living in a tight-knit community like a small town where everyone knows everyone and you're almost forced to interact with your neighbors. But even so, we see tragedies bringing people together all the time.

I wouldn't say being less empathetic is necessarily a bad thing or necessarily a good thing, it's just a different way of experiencing the current world.

As a matter of interest......if you walk out of your house tomorrow morning and walk down your street, what percentage of people will you exchange a nod or Good morning with etc.

I’d say around 75% immediately around my home.

I live on a country road in a 100kmh zone, I am more likely to get run over than see anyone to say hello too, I suppose I can always talk to the sheep or bulls.

Billy Connelly's advice, if you want to shag a sheep, is take it to the edge of a cliff so it pushes back

Do you have any cliffs near your house?

I live in one of the larger cities in Yorkshire and have lived in various different post codes / areas in that city.

Where I am now there is more of a working class community, it’s definitely more friendly than other areas and if you nod or say hello to someone you would get a response or vide versa.

Leeds is the largest so youd say the largest. It aint gunna be Bradford

York isnt that big and anyway is posh and doesn't do working class

Hull is a possibility

But no, you live in Sheffield
