Happy Diaby Day

On this day in 2006 we signed the lovely Abou Diaby. The 14th of Jan will forever be remembered as Diaby Day.

Shame he was as sturdy as falling china.

Man had the talent to be better than Yaya Toure.

I remember he came back after that long injury layoff and completely bossed Liverpool like he'd never missed a game (think it was one of the first games of the 2013 season?).

Diaby cost us a f***ing fortune, I dont care how he got injured initially fact is any worth while manager or business would have parted company years earlier, f**k the guy probably shortened players careers being overplayed because of a man sitting on the docs bench taking up a squad place

At a time when the world is being torn apart by Meghan Markle, we need to reflect on a purer time when Diaby graced the earth.

Heard it through the grapevine that he haunts the Arsenal treatment tables to this day.

Diaby was so injury prone, very talented but just too injury prone. Some of the players we wasted time on though it's pretty shocking, Senderos, Walcott, Djourou, Denilson, Lupoli makes for painful reading that Wenger believed this bunch were 2% away from dominating, we should have got rid of him then and there.

The irony is that everytime Wenger signed the wrong player, there were players available who turned out pretty good, Pique, Rossi, Bale etc all players we could have got but Wenger chose the wrong ones, his talent spotting also seemed to go out of the window at that point.

Its a false narrative thats been allowed to perpetuate that Diaby was a great player hampered by injuries

It was trumpeted as fact by a desperate fanbase that clung to Wenger's repeated lies that he'd be "back in a few weeks, hes just had a minor setback". He was never as good as people made out.

Diaby is one of the top reasons I couldn't stand Wenger.

The top five are

Diaby

Keeping Gallas as captain after "that" incident

Failing to win the league in 08/09 and failing to strengthen the squad despite this

Denilson and every one of his near 100 first team appearances

His shoddy treatment of Gilberto

He was shit.

And injury prone.

Only reason people thought he'd be good cos he was tall and black so vieira like. But when he did get on the pitch he was shit. Should've been sold summer of 06 but Wenger is going to Wenger.

Ffs even denilson was far better.

One of the very worst parts of Wenger's reign was continually renewing the contracts of shit and injured players.

12/13. Poldi and Santi scored in that game. It was at Anfield no less.

Diaby vs Liverpool, Cazorla vs Man City, Wilshere vs Barcelona.. Oh, the GOAT midfield performances.

Hey give the lad a break, he knocked out Terry with a kick to the face. We should celebrate that day.

Whenever im feeling sad I watch that clip

The only downside is any facial injury only served to improve Terry's looks

Still sometimes when I see it, initially I'm like "oh no". Then I'm like it's just John Terry, it's ok.
