Set in Afghanistan, it was made back in the day when the Taliban were America's best mates.

I remember watching it over and over again when I was a kid. :P

Game of Throans murdered LOTR like swatting a fly

LOTR no longer exists

One is a legendary movie trilogy

The other is a TV show that ran far past its best by date and had its final season mocked and ridiculed by all

Nothing can touch LOTR sorry
Basically this. Lord of the rings is the most beautiful movie series ever made

I will yeah.

I like a bit of cheesy action.

Yeah it will probably be quite good......a short glimpse of the preview suggests it will be a more violent version of Charles Bronson’s 70’s film....gone blank on the name!

I'm assuming Phil and Rockape are from the 70s/80s?

If so, Rocky or Rambo? Which series do you prefer?

As a standalone, 'course Rocky 1 is one of the best movies ever made and First Blood is a cult classic.

But I'm talking about the character and the entire series. Or, you can rank your favorite movies amongst them too.

Would say, in order of release date:

- Cleo From 5 to 7 (1962)
- Vagabond (1985)
- Salaam Bombay (1988)
- The Piano (1993)
- Boys Don't Cry (1999)
- Lost in Translation (2003)
- Water (2005)
- Babadook (2014)
- I Am Not A Witch (2017)
- Lady Bird (2017)

Talking of Jennifer's Body, it's such a guilty pleasure. Megan Fox  Gotta be one of those wild movies I love very much even if the flaws are glaring.

Others I'd like to mention are The Invitation, Zero Dark Thirty, Talaash, Big, and Daisies.

Just saw this. Great list, Ang.

What a pleasant surprise to see Daisies get a mention. It's a peachy experimental anarchist film abundant in quirky wit. Perhaps not revolutionary or groundbreaking, but the film's relative short length in addition to its lack of self-entitlement adds to its tongue-in-cheek charm. Plot aside, if we consider the jump cuts and color scheme, would it be fair to presume it's aesthetically as well as stylistically inspired by Godard's Le Mépris (alias Contempt)?

In not particular order, here are some of my favorite female-directed films:
Wanda (1970)
Satantango (1994)
Werckmeister Harmonies (2000)
Vagabond (1985)
Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975)
Le Bonheur (1965)
Cleo from 5 to 7 (1962)
Lost in Translation (2003)
Beau travail (1999)
The Turin Horse (2011)
Boys Don't Cry (1999)
*Hmpf, just noticed that's 11 and I'm struggling to axe one. :p

Honorable mentions:
Kedi (2016) (docu)
Fish Tank (2009)
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (1995)
Daisies (1966)
City of God (2002) (co-directed by Kátia Lund)
The Babadook (2014)

To-watch list:
Faces Places (2017)
Leave No Trace (2018)
American Honey (2016)
Zero Dark Thirty (2012)
35 Shots of Rum (2008)
Lady Bird (2017)
I Am Not A Witch (2017)
+ more of Agnès Varda's work

Anyone seen Joker yet?

It's not a must see for me hence I didn't go opening day but I'll probably go next weekend.

The origin film I didn't want but my god it was fantastic.
Phoenix is a superb joker, his laugh alone is brilliant.
This is the dark version of the DC universe I want, should be used as a blue print for all future DC films.
A must see

Show the spoiler
It was great movie. Human who had mental disorder that tried to be a good person but society killed his humanity.

Btw Martin Scorsese has claimed that MCU movies are “not cinema”.

Scorsese having an opinion doesn’t bother me at all. I know more than a few people who don’t like the MCU. My problem is “But that’s not cinema.”

Not so much down with gatekeeping.

I love Scorseses work and I like MCU movies. I think Scorsese shouldn’t have said that Marvel movies are not cinema. He is a great director to look up to and he should stay that great.

Sorry, missed this thread lately. I was a massive Rocky fan, completely blew me away and loved Rocky ll even more with that music and training scene. I read the book First Blood before the films came out and enjoyed the First Rambo film, but was never going to surpass my Rocky experience.

Yes I saw it on Friday.

Watch it.

Incredible film but not in the "Marvel" way, its not really comic book style its more of a serious film.

On its own it def gives you something to think about, as part of the comic book movies it lives up to that promise that you can take those movies and do 20 different things with them, they don't all have to be children friendly etc, they can be serious too.

Which is great because it expands the horizon of how these great characters can be portrayed in film to keep things fresh and entertaining, this one in particular is "surprising" not just entertaining.

As impactful as Marvels best but in a completely different way, which over all is good for the genre.
