He's an auteur. More importantly, with his movies, it's always like a fan is making movies—a fan lucky enough to be in the movies and a fan who is living his dream. As far as writer-directors go, in today's era, I connect more easily to movies of Coens, Wesley Anderson, or PTA than Tarantino. That's not a knock on QT at all. He has the most fundamental knowledge of cinema out of all of these guys, I feel. In fact, if I had to talk about cinema, learn about cinema, learn about writing for cinema, etc., Tarantino would be the guy I'd want to go to over the finesse of PTA, the aesthetics of Wes Anderson, or the craftmanship of the Coens.

Tarantino is one of the best directors living today, but he's also the most indulgent and his recent movies have been very indulgent. TH8 is an example. And, by the looks, it appears Hollywood is equally indulgent too.

I love Tarantino's dialogs. Let's leave aside the plot and the structure. I could listen to the dialogs or conversations in his movies all day long. He writes long scenes (and loves long takes!), but it doesn't feel boring or trite. I doubt there's anyone out there today who writes as compelling dialogs as he does. 'Course there are guys like Mamet and Sorkin who have their own zany dialogs, but they are primarily writers.

My fav Tarantino movie is True Romance. He didn't direct it but it still has Tarantino-esque written all over it. It's basically a remake of Badlands and I don't care. It's wild, it's funny, it's straight from the heart. Out of the ones he's directed, it's Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Jackie Brown. Kill Bill for its unabashed inspirations. Jackie Brown for making me feel like I'm very much part of the whole scheme.

Tarantino, in the end, is still that VHS store clerk who got a chance to make movies - and he made some great ones.

Really don't know how to feel about this, a bunch of random sketches and flashbacks, many of them unrelated.

It just seemed aimless, all the scenes of Leo filming his shows/movies did nothing for me.

You can tell this was a really personal movie for Tarantino but I had no connection with any of it.

Most disappointing aspect was Margot Robbie.

Why was she even in the film?

She had virtually no lines or purpose to the story besides being a pretty face. A waste of her talent.

Also overlong, could easily have been 45 minutes shorter.

The ending saved the experience for me, probably the most fun movie moment of my life.

That's what I heard too. I haven't watched it. Accto my friends, there doesn't seem to be much in terms of plot.

Hollywood is basically Tarantino's love letter to Hollywood—an ideal era of Hollywood for him. So, it's a personal film and such movies usually have issues as you've mentioned.

Need to watch it though. That said, the projection of Bruce Lee in the movie makes me not want to watch it.

Would say, in order of release date:

- Cleo From 5 to 7 (1962)
- Vagabond (1985)
- Salaam Bombay (1988)
- The Piano (1993)
- Boys Don't Cry (1999)
- Lost in Translation (2003)
- Water (2005)
- Babadook (2014)
- I Am Not A Witch (2017)
- Lady Bird (2017)

Talking of Jennifer's Body, it's such a guilty pleasure. Megan Fox  Gotta be one of those wild movies I love very much even if the flaws are glaring.

Others I'd like to mention are The Invitation, Zero Dark Thirty, Talaash, Big, and Daisies.

I can barely name 10 actresses I particularly like or that would make me want to watch a film because they were in it. Ive seen some great actresses in theatre but an actress rarely stands out for me in film.

Frances McDormand
Charlize Theron
Sigourney Weaver
Katharine Hepburn

all shit aside, IT (1990) was superior and my favorite by far.... people think the remake chapter one was just better cause the kids were hilarious and swore so much

I haven’t seen It Chapter Two yet, but will as soon as I possibly can, but I will admit that I liked It (TV Mini-Series 1990) WAY better than It (2017).

Btw I am actually curious to hear what you think of Doctor Sleep.

I liked part 1 of the remake and I'll probably like part 2 as well but the original was awesome. Pennywise in that is far more scarier than what he was in the remake. I too have heard part 2 is shit but I'll still watch it and make my own mind up. Never go to watch a film based on reviews. I make my own mind up on films.

Never heard of doctor sleep until your post. I guess if you're a Stephen King fan then you'll love it. I loved the shining. Plus Ewan McGregor is in it and haven't ever seen him in a bad film.

Yep.

Coincidentally just re-read it a couple months back.

Avoid IT 2 at all costs.

Possibly the worst horror movie I've ever seen which takes some doing and it's nearly 3 hours long.

Genuinely wasn't a scary moment in the entire movie, it's a bunch of jump scares and terrible CGI.

The fact the comedic value was the best thing about it tells you all you need to know about this "horror" movie.
