Odd that Barcelona rumor. He’d never start in that front three of Messi, Suarez, Dembele.

Backup signing. They want to rotate messi more to take the strain off and extend his career apparently. Makes sense as there will be a massive chasm when he leaves and no real replacement in world football at the moment.

Figures but Messi has played 46 games this season, 32 in the league. He’s almost never injured and is hungry for goals and records. Which means Laca sits on the bench.

Messi doesn't play down the middle, Suarez does. Laca would be a bench option as Suarez has at least another season left in him.

If Barca come calling, the truth is there is very little we can do to stop him from going. He may never get an opportunity like that again and he's in his prime years. They trump us in pretty much every area unfortunately.

However, he has 3 years left on his current deal and he's arguably our most valuable asset. So tell them they need to pay around £80m+ before we even consider listening to any offers.

Shouldn't you guys be excited? We can get rid of him to raise funds for Unai to sign his own players?

:hiding:

Don't. That has been the narrative fed to us ALL f'kin season. If it helps, folks upstairs were fine selling Lacazette last summer in case a winger popped up.

He wasn't even part of Unai's fantastic five: Ramsey, Xhaka, Iwobi, Auba, Bellerín.

There are two problems.

1) Barcelona make an offer that is simply too good to refuse. If they offer anything in excess of £80m, I think it is worth considering. If they offer around £90m-£100m, we should take it. I don't know how much money we will have to spend this Summer, however, if reports are true that Emery only has £45m to spend before player sales, then a bid in those regions may be necessary to facilitate transfers. We have a huge rebuilding job to do. If we could reinvest that money in other areas of the squad, like how Klopp did with the Coutinho money and built a well-rounded side, it would be in our best interests, despite Laca being a fan favourite and being a crucial player for us.

2) Lacazette forcing a move. If Barcelona's interest is serious, his head will naturally be turned. And who can blame him? He would be playing Champions League football, earning more money, playing with some of the best players on the planet and is likely to win trophies. If we are too stubborn with the interest from Barca, he is likely to throw a strop. We then have an unhappy, demotivated player. The last thing we want is a transfer saga lasting the entire Summer, disrupting the mood in the camp and affecting our plans for next season.

So if Barcelona's interest is legit, we are stuck between a rock and a hard place. They are just too powerful as an institution.

If Barca want Lacazette - then we should get Dembele in return. Dembele is not the finished article yet, but more of a talent than Laca.
That said, i think the rumour is BS.

Good Strikers are hard to come by, as demonstrated by Chelsea, so he will be in demand , come summer. Replacing him won't be easy.

Coutinho isn't even the example. They paid us for Hleb, Vermaelen and Alex Song.
