Totally embarrassing all round.
There was no urgency, no speed and no intensity to our game.
I get we have an injury crisis right now, but for f**k's sake, at least field a side that is sensible.
Starting a 34 year old Lichsteiner, who provided no width or overlapping runs at all, against a Brighton side with tricky, pacy wingers is a joke. He was exposed constantly, yet Emery kept him on and took Koscielny, who looked comfortable for most of the game, off? Why revert to a back 4 when Kolasinac is ineffective there? His skills as a wingback are curbed in that formation and given that we lacked width as it was, it just made us even less effective. We didn't stretch them at all.
Why was Torreira playing so high up the field when we needed him to be the midfield general? What was Guendouzi supposed to be? Why take Ozil off at half-time when we need creativity? Why take Lacazette off when we are searching for a goal with 30 minutes to go? Why was Xhaka collecting the ball so deep and trying to dictate play from a deep position when we know that's not what he's good at?
Games like today really make me realise just how long we have to go before being a top side again. We are MILES behind Liverpool, Spurs and City.
We didn't control the game at all and Brighton should have won.
I don't want to sound too reactionary. But my patience with Emery is beginning to wear thin.
This result is no better than a loss.
1 point is always better than none
We have won a league on goal difference
88/89
We drew at Luton
And at home to Sheffield weds and charlton
Take away any of them points you are taking away that title
I take your point, but you can't compare seasons from 30 years ago to current seasons.
No two seasons are ever the same.
Wenger won his 1st PL title with 78 points.
78 points would have gotten us 3rd place last season, joint 3rd place the season before, 3rd place in 2014-15, and wouldn't have even been enough for 4th place in 2013-14.
The consistency of Spurs, Liverpool and City is remarkable. We need to be matching/bettering their results if we want to be getting into the top 4. The only reason why Chelsea aren't mentioned in addition to that triad is because their strikers can't hit a barn door. But should they rectify that issue in January, which it seems like they will, it will be even tougher to break into the top 4.
A draw is better than a loss, yes, but in the context of how this season has gone, it does us no favours when the teams above us keep winning.
Man city have lost their last two games
Chelsea lost at home to Leicester
If you have to take a point you take a point
Wipe your mouth and go again
