The Next Few Weeks Could Define Our Season Part ???

Postby Pudpop » Fri Nov 09, 2018 7:30 am

We play 12 games in 38 days following the international break from Nov 25th until New Year's. Emery's squad management will be tested severely and when we come out of it we'll be halfway through the season having played everyone once.

First and foremost beating Wolves is vital to give us confidence going into the break

Our squad depth isn't that bad, can't be compared with citys surely, but we should normally be able to field a decent B-Team. We just have too many problems with injuries.

Half of our defense is always injured since seasons begin. With Welbeck out and Nketiah not getting any chances so far, we are also short on forwards.

I hope Emery gives a chance to more youngsters in the remaining EL group games. Our seniors will need the break. I think this time the international break comes in the right time for us.
We may get some players back like Monreal, Koscielny, Mavropanos, Neny and maybe even Lichsteiner. Emery has also time to think how he'll replace Danny and maybe work more with Nketiah in training.

With the top six being so much better than the rest there is no 'crucial period' anymore the fact is every single game is crucial ... City will probably get close to 100 points so to challenge we can afford to drop just 15 points ... so far we've dropped 10 so we're way off that schedule ....

Top 4 will likely be >75 points so we can only drop 28 points ... we're just slightly behind that target but only by 2 points ...

What that means is that in the next 12 games we can afford to drop probably only 2 points if we are serious about the title, and no more than 10 points if we want to be in a strong position for top 4 ... and it will be exactly the same challenge in the last 12 games as well ...

A bad run W L L W W D L W D W as Utd had at the start of the season, and you're out of the title race already .... even for top four they will require probably 20 wins in the next 25 matches ... that's a huge ask ...

I reckon we need another 52 points so 15 wins 7 draws with just 3 loses .... we can do that ... but like all our rivals we can't afford any mistakes ...

Well if I was being the ultimate pragmatist I would say it doesn't as its all the points from any part of the season compiled that will define our season however ........... I get what you mean from a momentum and belief side of it.

If we do well over the next two months then we will be fighting for top 4, if we drop now that might effect the players belief, however no matter what happens its Emery's job to keep us buoyant.

I don't think we'll get all the results we're after, but if we stay unbeaten or win a majority of the games in the next 4 weeks that's job done ready for a 2nd half season run to top 4.

Unbeaten runs do also bring extra pressure and not necessarily good pressure. I just hope that when we do eventually lose its not against United or the Filth

We need to keep winning against smaller teams and hold the big ones to a draw at least, then look forward to the 2nd half of the season.
This will put seeda of doubt amongst the bigger teams and they'll approach us on more equable terms, instead of aggressively. Especially ManCity.
