Highbury

Postby Phil71 » Thu Sep 06, 2018 8:48 am

Anniversary today of the first match played at Highbury.

6th September 1913. We won 2-1 against Leicester Fosse.

Programme front cover, with the first page of the column by 'Gunner's Mate', who was none other than future manager George Allison.

"We are making our re-entry into the Second Division of the Football league with light hearts and unbounded optimism."

I believe Cripps was the club mascot for that match.

When you are buried above sea level it's called a highbury.

Oh, right. Figured it was in reference to getting stoned out of your mind in a town outside of Greater Manchester.

No no no, it's obviously in reference to the formally accepted method of greeting the great Greg Bury, world renowned badminton player and instructor.
