Honestly, found this World Cup to be boring. Just didn't have the same vibe.

And not one great team. A bunch of under performing and mistake prone teams, which gave a lot of weak teams an opportunity. That's not good football though.

One whole bracket was a complete joke. Such weak teams.

Worst. I stopped caring after Argentina's exit. The WC stank from the KO stages honestly and as Mike said, one whole bracket was a joke.

Only games with recall value:

- Spain/Portugal
- Germany/Mexico
- Argentina/Nigeria
- Germany/South Korea
- Argentina/France
- Belgium/Japan
- Belgium/Brazil

I guess it comes down to if you're a tribal fan or a football fan

Me, I couldn't give a monkey's about football to be honest. Not club or international

I'm an Arsenal fan and, a born again England fan. For me the club is above the sport.

England gave a good account of themselves and as a bonus, a lot of players I don't like had a really awful time

Great. A+++

Really enjoyed the tournament. 8.5/10 (I voted 9) Fell away towards the end and while the final was exciting in terms of goals was an anti climax ruined by the ref. Its understandable why he gave the penalty becuase Perisic gained an advantage when it hit his hand but still it was an accident. France are worthy winners but I'm not happy they won it because their motivation to kick on in 4 years will now be gone since they already reached the summit without being outstanding.

My issue with the tournament is there really where no outstanding teams whatsoever, there where more flops than players who really shone from Werner to Neymar to even Greizmann, the defending was truly shit from every team bar Uruguay, Sweden and to an extent even though they extreme parked the bus Iran. Dreadful though from every team, hence all the excitement and goals including France who had to resort to parking the bus all knockout stages. This France team would get destroyed by every other winner in the last 30-40 years easily. they where very much the 'least incompetent team' rather than a truly outstanding team which defined a generation like Spain, Italy, Brazil and the previous France. I feel with Germany 4 years ago it was a similar story but they where better than this France team.

The two Gods of this generation went out early in Messi and Cristiano and we really don't have anyone yet ready to take their place, whatever you say about Mbappe, he's amazing but still very raw. This added to the tournaments excitement and openness but lacked that spark of seeing true greatness.

Standard of international football has fallen dramatically, its the reason the minnows can be competitive now. Club football has overtaken international football as being better quality.

Is this due to the break up of so many countries now ?!!! I loved the days when you would just tremble at the thought of having to face Brazil, Germany or Italy etc. Now, nobody has respect and think they can have a go and win - and often do - which is not a bad thing, but it takes away the aura from the game. In my opinion. Italy could get beaten by anyone, its just not the same anymore.

Its football in general and the funnel, bottleneck effect megaclubs are having on the game. Gone are the days you have a world class mercenary like Valderrama globetrotting wherever he felt without the need to 'prove himself' at some elite club.

Nowadays you have too many situations like with Kovacic. Top class player but is a bit part player at Real where he could be outstanding at somehwere like Napoli or Dortmund even who could build a team around him.

The mid ranged teams are better than ever now with the top teams not quite as special as before create a fun, unpredictable world cup but really bad in purist quality.

The group stages were quite watchable but the Knockout stages were a real let down for me, bit anticlimactic at times. As others have said there were no real standout team. France won but were pretty underwhelming. Only a few games that I would re watch. Overrated just a touch imo

Watched every World Cup since 1974
( even have the vaguest of memory's of 1970)
This was the best
An awful lot of talk about Italia 90
Many of the games were dull wars of attrition
England were pretty poor for large parts of the tournament and were incredibly lucky v Belgium in the last 16
Had Cameroon been more professional in the quarter final they would have run us closer
The semi final however was epic and one of the best performances I have seen from England at a World Cup
Rose tints exist in a lot of how people view world cups
I believe from a technical tactical point of view we are watching more competitive games
With generally outstanding moments that have made even the dull games worth watching
I have loved it
The sheen may have come off a lot of international football but the World Cup remain a solid gold joy.
I have concerns for Qatar but like all world cups it will find a way to captivate and hook you in once more.
Now bring on the arsenal

Disagree with those saying it wasn't a good world cup, I agree there was no standout team and the overall quality wasn't as good as previous world cups but I think that's exactly what made it fun and interesting. Some overachieving, some fluking, some big flops.

It got bonus points from me, cos despite being fairly shit, England made it fun just getting through and having a hope at the final. Tough side of the bracket had good games, our side was dull but when it's your own country you don't care how you get there. I think 2 of the 4 weeks were quality and the other 2 had some boring games some alright ones.
