but he did eventually.....Ozil, who’s done nothing, dips inside from the right, on to his left foot, and curls a cross into the middle. Hummels arrives, unmarked, and bounces the ball off his shoulder and behind for a goal-kick! What a chance! Heads are in hands. There are looks of disbelief. That should have been 1-0!

Germany are the 6th reigning World Champions to go out during the group stages in the subsequent World Cup.

When you run out of leftbacks to take off so you just tell your keeper to play striker

Was his typical Arsenal bad game. Played badly but still put it on a plate in the last 10 minutes.

Honestly Ozil has had a shocker but still managed to be one of Germany's best players. Says a lot really

The best chance of the game and Germany's best chance in this World Cup.

I know the media will slate him as usual, whilst Kroos' backpass that left Gwon onside for the first will go unnoticed, or how Kroos has been a poor man's Xhaka the entire tournament.

Kroos, Muller, Werner, Reus, Khedira, etc. have been far worse than Ozil. But the narrative has already been constructed, hasn't it?

Crazy 4 of them happened in last 5 World Cups. You can probably make an arguement about how big football is in this era

well, the narrative HERE, would be ozil centered, i'd imagine, cos he's teh only arsenal player, and the highest paid.

whatever i have seen of germany has been blech all around with a single moment of brilliance...

I'm not talking about GW.

Media will gang up on Ozil now whilst conveniently letting the likes of Kroos and Muller slip under the radar.

Not to worry though. He's going to tear down the assist record for us next season.

Which is true. The only problem with this is that people will use it to make any type of conclusion about him, ignoring the fact that it's simply 180 minutes of him playing badly while surrounded by compete dross.

Ironically, had Hummels put away that chance Germany would be going through thanks to a moment of brilliance from Ozil, and yet only the last 5 minutes of Ozil's 2 performances would have changed...
