Arsenal are set to appoint Unai Emery as their new manager.

Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta was strong favourite to succeed the outgoing Arsene Wenger.

But following a thorough recruitment process that involved all candidates being spoken to, Emery emerged as the unanimous choice.

The 46-year-old Spaniard is available after leaving Paris St-Germain where he won one Ligue 1 title and four domestic cups in two seasons in charge.

Previously he guided Sevilla to three Europa League triumphs.

Emery's English is not completely fluent but the language barrier is not expected to be a problem.

An announcement and news conference are expected later this week.

The recruitment process was led by Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

Underwhelming if true but at least he’s a real manager. The other guy just stayed at a holiday inn express last night.

Crazy. I thought Arteta was a lock and was just coming round to the idea.

I'm more excited about what he did with Sevilla than his time in Paris. Best of luck Unai.

I was trying to keep positive about Arteta but this is objectively the better appointment. Not the best option but decent, hope he does well.

Wasn't my first choice but if it was him or Arteta, there is no contest.

This is a manager I can genuinely get behind. Its been 8 years since I was behind an Arsenal manager. Feels good to be one with Arsenal fans again

Tbf it’s a decent stopgap until someone like Nagelsmann is ready, a Klopp etc becomes available or even if Mikel & Vieira learn their trade elsewhere

Remember this is the guy that attracted a world superstar to leave Barca in his prime to join Scottish league B

Can we get him to get Ronaldo?

7/10 appointment. A top manager but not someone who really gets me going too much.

He won't last long, we should start the work now to get a real long term solution for 5+ years under this new model. I'm convinced he can get us champions league football again but i doubt he will win the league.

He's like Benitez with his meticulous attention to detail which works for some players but some have complained hes boring and dosen't gather the respect from them. Like Conte he's not everyones cup of tea.

We should be going all out again for the Europa and we have the perfect manger to win it this time.
