This is the same bunch that calls Rooney an all-time English great just because he scored a bunch of goals in friendlies. That's like calling Aguero an all-time great for Argentina.

Rooney has still by far been England's best player in terms of quality for a very long time. No fool has got near his level in his era especially this decade. No not Kane, he is a great goalscorer but ordinary player. There is nobody remotely world class in that squad now which Rooney was inconsistently at least in the early part of this decade. Hes been the only England player to gain global level of respect this decade.

England should be bringing both Sancho and Sessegnon. There is a good group of players born the year 2000 so by 2022 or 2026 there is a chance they can be a good team at least again, maybe in the statue they had in the 90's.

Right now they aren't worth talking about.

Lol look at all those defenders and strikers. Shit midfield if you ask me. You've got Alli who plays more like a 2nd striker and then a bunch of holding mids without creativity. Should probably have included Wilshere for that alone, but if not him at least take Lallana.

Agreed. The midfield is dire. How could Wilshere miss out? He's not great but there is nobody else who could do what he does.

Nvm, Southgate will finish 4th in the group before Wenger is appointed the manager.

Knowing the FA, they'd want Southgate to fail - just so that they could fulfill their dream of getting Wenger.

Also it's a total farce that Wilshere has been left out, especially after Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury. His fitness isn't an issue and Southgate said that was what matters, yet he still picks RLC. Then he also chooses Delph who's not better than Dier/ Henderson in midfield or Rose/ Young at left-back. So uninspiring.

Rose has hardly played and is in.

So much for not taking players who don't play

Imagine starting Pickford, he's a horrific keeper.

Don't get why people are surprised about Wilshere, he's been trash for months. He was also injured for the last friendlies and can't handle the intensity of the world cup with less than a full season proof of fitness under his belt.

Lallana aka Kalkan is the shock but RLC makes it up a bit as he's the one different CM we have. Maybe Jones is also lined up as a backup DM, excess forwards though imo when you realise Lingard and Alli are basically forwards as well.

Lallana has been even worse than Wilshere this season

Neither deserved to go

This Cheek pubber, haven't heard anything about him since that Germany game yet he gets in? Has he played for England since?

I like Southgate has gone for players that can play in multiple positions. Dier will probably start in midfield and if needed can drop back if we are holding on to a goal lead v Panama. Young, Delph don't rate either but can do a job.

Of course having the best defensive attacker ever in Welbeck helps as well.

Keepers are spot on. Where is Smalling? Would've taken Tarkowski.

Its not a very good squad but then we don't have very good players. Will I be upset like Euro 96, italia 90, France 98 when we get knocked out? Doubt it but still supporting the three lions

"Radja Nainggolan is a top player. The reason is tactical," said Martinez.

"In the past two years the team has worked in a specific manner. Other players had those roles.

"We know Radja has a very important role in his club and we cannot give him that role in our squad."

Nainggolan responded by on social media website Instagram, posting: "Very reluctantly my international career comes to an end.

"I've always done everything I could to represent my country."
