Petit Vieira, it's not even an argument.
It was like the were perfectly synced together physically, mentally and ability wise.
Vieira was a bit like ramsey/yaya where he'd launch immediately forward with the ball leaving 3-4 players destroyed. Petit was always perfectly placed to sit back as the out ball, to stamp out a counter or to redistribute the early long ball.
He was everything xhaka was meant to be but with pure ability and athleticism to get up and down plus the concentration to be on alert at every moment.
Those two were perfect for a flat 4 midfield in a 442 together. I'd never seen a midfield partnership like it before or since tbh.
They were like twins only one was hench and black Senegalese french and the other was a blonde ponytailed Frenchman.
Gilberto was much closer to the makelele type at the base of a 3 man midfield. Not as well rounded or talented as petit but an absolute master in the art of defensive midfield.
95% of his yellow cards (and he was never sent off for us iirc) were given because he decided it needed to happen. He knew exactly what needed to be done and when and never flapped.
That man played like his family was held hostage and he had to put out a performance to save their lives EVERY f***ing GAME.
I will always pick petit because he was just an all round better player but don't get it twisted, I worship Gilberto with every fibre of my body and am still pissed we firstly stripped the captaincy off him to give to cesc so he would stay ffs and secondly that we sold him and diarra in the same window like idiots.
