When a good player (read: not a superstar) player like Coutinho goes for almost 150 million pounds, there is no chance we can compete in this market for good players.
Our best hope would have been internal development but considering that we have dross like Nelson, Willock, ANM, Iwobi, Akpom as our top prospects, we will not see anyone of even reasonable skill and impact come through the youth ranks and lead this club to glory.
In short - we are f***ked until we start spending some real money and join the party of crazy transfer fees- which is impossible with the club being led by the Moustached Yankee and his cronies.
This is true but we have the money that's what pisses people off
The club surely has money but it is not for spending on players.
Think about it:
I am of the firm belief that every year, Wenger is only given 50 million to spend - it was the case during the Ozil window, it was the case during the Cech and Sanchez window, it was the case during the Arteta et al window. In the summer of 2016 Wenger actually spend a net of 100 million on Xhaka, Mustafi, Perez and Holding - exceeding his allocated budget by 50 million. So, what does the board do? Give him zero to spend in the summer of 2017.
He blew 40 on Laca in the crazy transfer market of today knowing full well that he will have to sell players to make that money back. Which he did by selling chezny, Gibbs and Gabriel.
While he was still trying to tie down Ox to a new deal, he used Lemar as a backup option with a paltry 35 million bid for him knowing full well that if Ox rejects the final offer, he will be able to sell him to Chelski or Liverpool for around 35 million - money he was offering for Lemar until early August.
Once it became clear towards late August that Ox aint signing the 180k per week deal, wenger sold him to Liverpool for 35 million - money that was available to him . Also by this time, it had become clear that Monaco ain't selling Lemar for a shitty 35 million bid.
By this time, it had also become clear that all efforts to convince Alexis to stay were futile and he wanted to go to City. On deadline day, in came City with a 60 million bid which we allegedly accepted with the condition that we will be able to find a replacement for him. What do we do? We take that 60 million and add the 35 from Ox sale to put in a 95 million bid for Lemar. Which was accepted but due to last minute formalities and the fact Lemar was involved in international match, deal couldn't get done (or as rumor has it, he turned us down). We go to City and pull the plug on alexis deal as well knowing that not only it will be a PR disaster to let him go without replacement but I firmly believe that more importantly, Wenger knew that that 95 million will no longer be available to him past the summer transfer deadline. So what does he do? He says, f**k the club heirarchy - I will improve my chances of getting a top 4 spot by keeping Alexis anyway - a polite, subtle middle finger to the club.
I hate Wenger as much as any other Wenger Out proponent - but I do believe the problems run way deeper in this club and actually start with the owner and the board. Wenger, although an arguably incompetent coach, has had his hands tied and perhaps has been too loyal to Arsenal football club that he does not want to leave the club into anyone else's hands knowing full well that any incoming manager will have to deal with similar BS from the owner and the board and will likely fail on the footballing side and will have a public falling out with the club bringing to light the inner turmoil at the club. I think Arsene is now trying to protect the sacred Arsenal name from public humiliation. I genuinely believe Arsene has been sacrificing his own professional ambitions because he loves Arsenal too much and does not want the idiots sitting in the boardroom run the club into the ground if he is not around.
