Its a shame we can't have it again.

London 2012 was a great couple of weeks. Was lucky enough to get hockey tickets in the Olympic Park.

This year looks like being overshadowed by doping and politics which is a shame.

We all know that the UK will always put on the best sporting event in it's history, we're so good at it. And we could have had it again if the IOC had realised that Brazil wouldn't be ready earlier and that plague been discovered earlier then we could have stepped in as the stopgap solution. We have all the infrastructure in place to do it again.

Should be every four years in Greece no need to waste huge amounts of money and space to build infrastructure that mostly won't be used after some weeks in several cities all over the world .. feed the really poor, buy your Civil service better equipment and (re)build schools instead of wasting billions for some f***ing stadiums ..

Greece could not afford to do that, for the reasons you just mentioned. Organisation isn't cheap.

In this case they already had the whole infrastructure for Athen 2004 also "organisation" is not cheap because most cities have to buy expensive building land in metropolises aso. Also if you have once improved the other infrastructure like public transport the costs are much lower for the next Olympics. Plus cause of the history the Olympics should be in Greece. The current system is just a cash cow for people who are already rich.

Although the London Olympics was a very positive thing overall I do agree with this.

Stratford got badly needed regeneration, and we got a nice new public park out of it, but why does the government need a special reason to do that? And to make it worse they lost an untold amount of money on that bloody stadium.

Will be supporting all Russians

2020 olympics was almost in Turkey, thankfully Tokyo won or it would be another disaster

This biggest waste of money ever.

I agree that athletes and teams need the Olympics and state of the art facilities to aim for; but not at the cost of a countries populous.

Each continent should have state of the art facilities for each particular sporting event and those events should be built in a different country of that continent - then the Olympics rotates evenly through the continents.

Each country in those continents then tender to be a sports event facilitator.

As for the opening ceremony that could be rotated throughout the continent that it is on that year.

Same reason the 2020 Euros are doing the grand tour of Europe, it was just to stop giving it to Turkey because they were the only credible bid.
