Bacary Sagna set for summer departure from Arsenal as contract talks reach stalemate
Arsene Wenger remains hopeful of keeping hold of the full-back - but the French international is looking for a three-year deal
Bacary Sagna now looks certain to leave Arsenal at the end of the season.
Talks about a new contract for the France full back have reached stalemate.
Sagna’s deal runs out at the end of the season when he qualifies for a free transfer.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has not given up hope if keeping the player he signed from Auxerre for £ 8.5million seven years ago.
He has offered Sagna – 31 next month – a two-year contract to keep him at the Emirates.
That already represents a shift in policy because as a rule, players of 30-plus are given the opportunity to stay only one year.
But Sagna is looking for a three-year deal – and unless Arsenal meet that request, he will become a sought-after free transfer in June.
There is, however, little chance that he will be sold during the current window so Arsenal can re-coup some cash.
Sagna has played a significant part in their challenge for honours on three fronts – the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
