Bacary Sagna set for summer departure from Arsenal as contract talks reach stalemate

Arsene Wenger remains hopeful of keeping hold of the full-back - but the French international is looking for a three-year deal

Bacary Sagna now looks certain to leave Arsenal at the end of the season.

Talks about a new contract for the France full back have reached stalemate.

Sagna’s deal runs out at the end of the season when he qualifies for a free transfer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has not given up hope if keeping the player he signed from Auxerre for £ 8.5million seven years ago.

He has offered Sagna – 31 next month – a two-year contract to keep him at the Emirates.

That already represents a shift in policy because as a rule, players of 30-plus are given the opportunity to stay only one year.

But Sagna is looking for a three-year deal – and unless Arsenal meet that request, he will become a sought-after free transfer in June.

There is, however, little chance that he will be sold during the current window so Arsenal can re-coup some cash.

Sagna has played a significant part in their challenge for honours on three fronts – the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

This better not be true. Thankfully it's just The Mirror who are reporting it for now.

Can we hit the panic button yet or is it too early?

He should take the deal if thats true. He wants three years, we offer two. I think its reasonable. A while ago we would of only offered one year,

3 years for a 31 year old? Are you nuts Sagna?

Keep him by all means but 2 years is enough, play well and you get an extension, don't be a c***.

What is not to understand? If this article is true then Sagna should take the 2 year deal. Keeping him til he's 34 is a big risk, if'd he's still good enough in a couple of years he can get the extra year then.

I think that if there's one player worthy of the three year deal, it's Sagna. His possible future as a CB to me only confirms this. Even if in a year he lacks the pace to play fullback, he could slot in easily as a disciplined Centerback. Sagna has been instrumental in our defense this year, I'd argue more valuable even than Koscielny. Wenger should break the rules for a special talent who bleeds red and white.

Sagna is a beast but signing any 31 year old to a 3 year contract is crazy. 2 years with option for an extra year is all i'm saying.

We should be looking for replacements if this is true .2 year contract with option for an extra year depending on form would be best outcome but I wouldnt mind seeing a player like coleman come in.

He just want to celebrate a ten years jubilee here ;)

If Bayern can walk through the CL knock out stages with a 35years old van Buyten (started in 5/7 matches last season) why shouldn't we give Sagna a 3years contract ? IIRC his wages are very low compared to his quality.
Ribery is 34years old when his contract ends as a midfielder and Dante, Lahm atm will stay till 33 at Bayern.
