Sagna prepares for Arsenal stay

Sagna prepares for Arsenal stay

Postby Trina » Sat May 04, 2013 8:40 am

Bacary Sagna is set to make a dramatic U-turn on his decision to quit Arsenal after a proposed switch to Paris St Germain hit a snag.

Dialogue between the long-serving right-back and Gunners officials have re-opened in recent weeks, with the club growing increasingly confident Sagna will, at least, see out the remaining year of his contract.

The France international has been at loggerheads with Arsenal over a new contract since November.

Sagna was upset by the club's decision to only offer him a one-year extension, which would not have included a pay increase, on his existing contract.

And both parties looked resigned to parting company this summer, with Sagna keen to find a better pay deal and Arsenal open to selling to avoid losing the defender for nothing at the end of his contract.

Fears over the defender's long-term fitness also contributed to the feeling within the club that this summer may be the right time to sell.
Sagna's representatives have held extensive discussions with PSG officials over a proposed summer switch back to his homeland while the Gunners have even begun an extensive scouting drive to identify the right-back's replacement.

But Sportsmail understands plans to introduce a 75 per cent 'supertax' in France for the nation's top earners has put Sagna's PSG switch in serious jeopardy.

It was originally thought the upper income tax plan would not apply to football clubs, but that is now unclear.

Such a tax deduction would have a significant impact on Sagna's pay-deal should he leave for the French capital.

And Sagna could now stay at the Emirates Stadium next season, while the option of an Arsenal contract extension could also be revisited depending on how the defender plays.

Mega-rich Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala are also interested in signing Sagna this summer and are willing to offer the Frenchman a lucrative contract.

Its 75% on the increment of income over 1 million EUR. A salary of 1.3 million means that 300k will be taxed @75pct. This will be in effect for two years. I don't think the law has passed yet, as it's still being debated in government.

As for being 'Communist', the highest marginal tax rate in the US at the height of its economic power in the 1950s was 91%. So it's all relative.

Every mercenary footballer in the world will want to play in Monaco (they've got a oil owner too now) because 0 tax. :)

More likely just militant socialist, similar to what the Labour party was when it started up.

Glad that he'll stay. He will be a good mentor for Jenkinson.

Sagna is a proper gunner, even if he starts his decline he would still be a great 2nd option at RB behind Jenks.

Also, the possibility of replacing him with someone of his class or better is very low, considering our board..
