Of course it's due to money ffs, they quite clearly weighed up the cost of it against the likelihood of anyone being alive after 2/3 days at sea and determined it wasn't worth it.

Really that simple, even if it is blunt.

Yep.

Can’t expect the government to fund salvage operations.

Too soon from Nantes but Cardiff should still (and it looks like they will) pay the fee. It would be wonderful if we could get a refund for players like Mustafi, Xhaka, and Lichtsteiner but football doesn’t work that way

Was wondering how that was going to work in this situation. Has this ever happened before?

But yeah, I'd say too soon for Nantes, they need to maybe have a bit more understanding. Unless they need that money to keep the lights on or something, but I doubt it.

Sure Cardiff will pay up but this is so not the right time to ask for it. Nantes have showed themselves to be assholes.

Nantes aren’t rich and it had to be sorted within a reasonable timeframe

It’ll be all over soon

You can't send out search teams to look under the water.....they are Search & Rescue teams, looking for life. The equipment used to find the plane is normally used to find oil, as it scans & maps the sea bed. They sent out that equipment so they could compare the scans with previous ones and see any anomalies...in this instance, plane shaped anomalies.

Nantes could have waited for the body to be recovered and the insurance paid before they started making demands.

They've dealt with it the wrong way

A private phone call between Cheif Executives is the way to address that. Not bloody emails and mentions of legal action

I'm not doubting the professionalism of the search and rescue teams but it suggests that either their tactics were wrong, or they lack the resources needed for such a search

This isn't just about finding a light aircraft, it calls into question their ability to find people and victims in other situations, leading potentially to crimes going unsolved or accidents going un-investigated

Nope ... you are confusing rescue with recovery ... the first search carried out and paid for by British and French rescue services was looking for survivors. When you consider that once you hit the water life expectancy in the channel in January is measured in minutes, then the only chance of survival was if the plane remained afloat or the occupants entered a life raft .... after 24 hours the chances of finding survivors is pretty much zero, they carried on for 72 hours, and frankly that was only because of the press coverage.

Once the chances of survival are eliminated it's no longer a rescue but a recovery, and that's not done for free ... why should it be?

Light aircraft crash everyday, shit happens, governments need to spend our resources on the living not on the dead.

Cardiff released this information? why? to make Nantes look bad, to delay payment? ... that's pretty low gutter tactics ...

Why should Nantes have to wait for Cardiff's insurance? How were Cardiff going to pay if he was still alive?

Nantes are a piss-poor club, they sold a star player in January no doubt because they needed the cash, it's not their fault a Cardiff player was killed. Cardiff should have made 100% sure Nantes got paid .... it's very bad form, and disrespectful in the extreme, to use a tragedy to avoid paying your bills. Cardiff are the bad-boys here not Nantes ...

Agree, Nantes done nothing wrong. Cardiff just trying to get round paying in full I'm sure.

I mean Cardiff announced after about 2 days they were taking legal action and advice on all the money involved, they were the ones who shouted too soon yet escaped any criticism.
