Under George Graham we were shit

But we were brilliant

The same tactics would work today

I don't see why not. The only material difference is that the game is faster now. But I think there's an over assumption that players and tactics wouldn't succeed in other eras

It really wasn't that long ago. Some teams still deploy similar tactics. The only reason they don't do very well is because they tend to be doing it out of necessity and with inferior players

If you had a blank sheet of players with all the same generic players with the same fitness etc you’d gradually see the newer evolutions of tactics beat the past ones

WM would get beaten by total football etc etc the trend would go on

There’s more ways to be effective than how Graham set out for example nowadays. City have statistically the best defence in football atm (if not then top 5 easily), they allow the least shots and concede the least goals despite them playing expansive football

It’s hard to compare eras in general as the game has advanced in both intelligence, fitness and ability in all teams, so it’s doing the older lot a disservice by trying to compare them to teams now for example

City's shape in that pic arouses me. Leicester's isn't actually that bad, CM's are way too on top of each other and the c*** of the left wing is too far inside but their backline isn't bad, guessing Maguire is the LCB. If they had a better CM and reduced the reliance on him they'd do well.

Telling difference between Liverpool/City and the rest is the height of their backline though. If we can push our whole system forward (about 1/8 pitch) I think it's fine, both wide forwards tucking in to leave space for the full backs, which we've seen pretty regularly.

The reason our left winger is so narrow if from when Gray was injured and Maddison was nominally our left winger with Iheanacho behind Vardy

Messy out for 3 months. Knee injury.

Comes to know surprise. His gait is absolutely horrendous. He’s so heavy on his feet.

Big blow for City though as he’s a big loss.

Chelsea have re-signed Kante until 2023 and have bumped his wages to €325k a week.

Hazard earns £200k a week.

The biggest deal ever for a defensive midfielder.

I am hoping for a few shock results today, I hope Watford, C, Palace and West Ham get a point and in the other big Spuds game a draw would be nice.

I swear some of these Premier League teams no longer look motivated when they're up against City.

It's like those mid-table/relegation fodder La Liga teams who have an extended history of throwing the towel against Barcelona and Real to preserve their energy for the next game.
