Safe standing - time to act

Postby Safe Standing Roadshow » Sun Aug 20, 2017 12:19 pm

Hi, this is Jon Darch from the Safe Standing Roadshow. Please take a minute to lend the safe standing campaign your vital support.

As you probably know, the EFL supports safe standing, the FA chairman wants it and the EPL clubs are discussing it. After many years of campaigning, we are almost at the point where government will look seriously at introducing it.

But we're not quite there.

A working showcase will greatly strengthen our case. It will show MPs that safe standing DOES work in this country.

So act now! Help this crowdfunding campaign being run by local fans and the FSF to create this important showcase to prove our point!

The venue will be Shrewsbury Town. But this is absolutely NOT about just one club. It's about EVERY club. And EVERY fan.

If you believe that ALL fans of ALL clubs should have the choice to sit or stand, act now!

Contribute here. Even just a pound or two will help. More if you can afford it. There are some great rewards in return.

But most of all you will be helping to make safe standing happen.

Let's get this showcase up and running ASAP, so that when discussions take place with government they can't say it wouldn't work in England or Wales.

Let's show them it can!

The time to do your bit is here and now!

Thanks!
Safe Standing Roadshow

This is vital for the atmosphere!
Was over at the emirates last homegame last season against Everton, and the atmosphere was shocking. My homeclub Rosenborg has a much better atmosphere, and we have 20k on our homegames..

Safe standing - time to act

If we had safe standing it'd be the same atmosphere but your legs would ache.

Standing isn't the issue. The issue is the way seats are sold. In the good old days large groups could swarm in together from the pubs and would stay together in the ground. With seats allocated (which would be the same if standing areas were allocated) those groups are dispersed when they get in the ground.

Football clubs don't want that sort of atmosphere anymore. They want football to be a family day out. I don't think we'll ever get those atmospheres back.

A big club like Arsenal should match the yellow wall in Dortmund! Would be awesome!

too bad they didn't think of that when they built Ashburton. Now the Y*ddos have done that with their new stadium.

The problems are twofold, firstly there is no benefit financially to the clubs any standing will be on a 1-1 ratio as that is how the safety certificate works, If you double the number of fans in a section you need to double the walkway width, double the entrance width, add extra turnstiles, add more toilets etc. That all costs money on top of replacing all the current seats. Secondly fans will want to pay less for standing, so either you charge less and lose money, or you increase the price of seating tickets ... neither option is very appealing for the club.

The only way safe standing works financially is when you have spare capacity, which applies to most clubs outside the EPL, or where you include it as part of your stadium design. To re-engineer an all seated stand is easy enough to do, however if you do it you will almost certainly lose money. Most clubs with ST waiting lists and high ticket prices just won't do it ... and that includes us.

Simply redesign the seating with smaller seats and a rail to lean on at the back if the seat infront

Sell tickets as “optional standing permitted“ and apply to LB Islington for a modest capacity increase of maybe 4-5k.
