I don't think ag6789 is old enough to remember that now infamous quote from Alan Hansen, "you will never win anything with kids", Fergie then went on to win everything with kids !!

I'm in my 50s and remember very much what Hansen said, but he wasn't talking about 15-16 yrs olds. He was talking about players in their early 20s, w/o much experience at highest level.
Big difference, because kids at 15-16 are not fully physically developed. They develop/ mature physically mostly between 18-20 yrs. There could be exceptions but very rare.

Oscar Bobb was 20 when he made his debut btw not that young.
Yamal is generational talent and we don't have those in the academy.

Hansen wasn’t talking about players in their 20s, he was talking about playing young players with little experience, players from the academy I would think.

Utd's team who won the title for them for r the first time in 20 odd years had a lot of experienced players.
Their avg age was nearly 27 across the squad.
History gets skewed a bit

They won it with a very experienced team and few young players. As it happens less young players than we have had over the last 2-3 years.
Ryan Giggs was actually the only player under 20 that played more than 1 game in 92/93.

The bulk of the team was

Pallister
Schmeichel
Bruce
Mclair
Cantona
Ince
Hughes
Irwin
Paul Parker
Kanchelskis

The 10 outfield players that were the mainstays.

ironically the average age of the Utd squad that featured in any game that season was the same as their opponents.

The likes of Beckham came later - after he'd been on loan for 2 years.
Younger players did find their way through but only after Utd had won the title and established themselves as Champions.
They did not make the breakthrough for Utd - they largely got brought through into an already top, title winning side.

Here we go lol!

It happened in 1995, the season Fergie's Fledglings took to the field, G Neville, P Neville, Butt, Scholes and Beckham, who all came through together. Giggs and Lee Sharpe came through before them, but they were largely 20 year olds.

You are talking like we are asking for half the team to be kids, you know full well we are not!! Beckham made his Man U debut aged 17, Ryan Giggs was 18, Lee Sharpe was 17. So you can't tell me its not normal to give debuts and play teenagers at big clubs, its normal for good players. You are talking like we never saw Wenger give debuts and game time to umpteen teenagers!

Rooney, Rashford, Ferdinand, Carrick, there are so many when you look into it

Emile Smith Rowe has joined Fulham on a permanent transfer.

Emile joined our Academy aged ten and progressed through each age group before making his way into the first-team squad. He went on to make 115 senior appearances for us in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and assisting 13 times.

Having made 55 appearances in total across our Under-18 and Under-21 teams, Emile was an integral part of our Academy setup during his development years. Flourishing in youth football and completing his pathway in promotion to our first team, Emile signed his first professional contract in July 2017. His strong performances resulted with a new long-term deal just a year later.

The versatile midfielder made his first team debut in September 2018, when he came on as a substitute in our 4-2 win against Vorskla Poltava, creating history as the first player born in the 2000s to debut for the club. Emile didn’t have to wait long for his first goal, scoring in the following UEFA Europa League match away to Qarabag in Azerbaijan in a 3-0 win in October 2018.

In January 2019, Emile joined Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on a short-term loan, before moving to gain further valuable loan experience at Championship side Huddersfield Town in 2020. An impressive spell in Yorkshire led to 19 appearances in the league, where he scored twice and assisted three times to help Huddersfield secure safety.

The 2020/21 season was a memorable one which saw Emile integrated into our first team, and started with a season opener featuring silverware, as he was part of the matchday squad to lift the FA Community Shield following our 5-4 win on penalties against Liverpool. Emile made 33 senior appearances in all competitions during the season, assisting three times and scoring four goals – including his first in the Premier League in a 3-1 home win against West Brom.

The following season was another strong campaign for the Hale End graduate, including a memorable performance in the North London Derby. He scored and assisted that day to help us beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Emirates Stadium. Emile finished the campaign with his best numbers, making 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and assisting twice. At the time, he was the first Hale End graduate since Cesc Fabregas to score double figures in a season.

Emile’s journey with England at youth level was highly successful. He represented his country from Under-16 level all the way through to senior football, winning the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2017 and, more recently, the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

His first senior cap arrived in November 2021, when he came on as a substitute in England’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying win against Albania. He scored his first senior goal in the same international break just three days after his debut, scoring against San Marino in a 10-0 victory.

Sporting Director Edu said: “Emile is loved by us all at the club. He has been with us for many years, and we are so proud that he has developed through our Academy system into our first team. It has been a positive collaboration to find the right place for Emile, where he will continue to grow and make his mark on the Premier League. We have completed an important and positive deal for everyone.

“We thank Emile for everything he gave to Arsenal and we wish him well in the next stage of his career.”

Mikel Arteta added: “Emile’s commitment, attitude and energy every day was first class, always stepping up when the team needed him. He came into the first team and was instrumental during a difficult moment for us. He created an important impression, with his strong performances making our supporters proud.

“I’m sad that Emile is leaving us, but excited for him to take this new opportunity at this stage of his career, when he needs to be starting matches and playing regularly.

“Emile is loved by everyone at the club and leaves us with our gratitude, absolute respect and best wishes. We all wish Emile and his family well at Fulham.”

Everyone at Arsenal thanks Emile for his contribution to the club and wishes him all the best for his future.

The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

I'm happy for him. He has a chance to play regularly and if he can overcome his fitness issues, it opens the path for him to the national team; perhaps a move to another "big" club.

I hope he shines at Fulham.

Hopefully the groin issue and the other niggling injuries that haunted him for years remain a thing of the past so that he's finally able to develop into the player we know he can be. The fact that Fulham were willing to pay a club record fee for ESR is a testament to how highly-rated he still is.

Will always have a soft spot for Smith Rowe. Hope he kills it at Fulham.

I was ten years old when I first signed for this club, just a kid with no idea that I would go on to make over 100 appearances and wear the iconic no.10 for Arsenal.

I’ve experienced so much here, met and played with the best and made so many memories that it’s hard to pick out the best moments.

There’s too many people to thank but I want to say thank you to all my teammates over the years, every staff member that’s helped me along the way and especially to you fans for making Arsenal *Home* to me for so long

I’m ready to take on a new challenge now, I feel hungrier than ever and I have to give myself the opportunity to take the next step.

So thank you again to the Arsenal family, I’ll always appreciate you all.
