Corruption in British Football

Postby Rastayouth » Mon Sep 26, 2016 11:38 pm

Big Sam's been busted as part of a wider investigation by the Telegraph into corruption in the British game. Apparently he accepted to be paid 400k by undercover reporters (who he thought were from the Far East) in exchange for explaining how to circumvent the FA's rules on 3rd party ownership.

Started a new thread as Telegraph said we should expect more revelations.

I read the article. He doesn't appear to have done anything wrong. All he did was point out that loop holes exist.

If you don't like it, blame Fifa / the FA for the Loopholes existing in the first place.

Was thinking the same thing. There's another article with the transcript where I thought it was a non-story. Expect a lot of media coverage + some other stories to come though.

Here's a semi-transcript (he even shies away from dodgy conversations)

Honest to God, I hate the British press. unless they have something held back, there's literally nothing to this.

Ok I've read that as well

It's a story about nothing. England manager offers to do some public speaking and have a few drinks with clients at a corporate do.

My Grandad used to get Arsenal players to do that for him back in the late fifties and early sixties. He ran his own firm, and used to pay one or two players to come with him to a meeting and shake hands with the client and buy them a drink.

Nobody cared then and nobody cares now.

He negotiated a deal to do a public speaking deal In the far east.

He discussed the structure of third party ownership just like anyone else would (very basic stuff).

He said he would check with the FA to see if this deal could be done.

He shied away from any transfer related talks.

Somehow, the telegraph have gotten away with making this seem like some shady taboo like situation when it's anything but.

Ffs, it's basically the same premise as any one of the active managers appearing on a chat show overseas and talking about the workings of football similar to punditry basically.

It's such a non story that it's really pissing me off that he's now been made out to be some sort of crook.

Did he even lie when he mentioned that teams he's had dealings with bought third party owned players?

Did the telegraph make a huge deal about the tevez deal or any other deals like that?

Fecking bullocks.
