Doesn't matter if he was 20 or 30 million. We could never match Chelsea on wages. That was clear in 2005 when we let the best LB in the PL go to a direct rival over 5k/pw.

In 2011 he was 24 mil and we couldn't afford. Gervinho was 10 mil.


You do realise that Madrid + others were also interested in him there was never any chance of us getting him, were it not for Chelsea's champions league win he surely would have ended up at real.

Liverpool at the real idiots though remember watching him kill its against them in Europa league in 2010, they should have purchased him then before his title winning world class season with Lille, could have got him cheap before interest grew from other sides.
