It's called the Giggs syndrome, which is the anti-thesis of Ronaldinho syndrome.

When someone remains consistent for a long period of time, it eschews your perception of the player's actual quality, whereby you end up overrating him. The longetivity misleads you into buying their hype. Giggs was consistently good for nearly two decades. He was dangerous when he had pace. But he was never an elite tier player. In fact, he was considered the least talented amongst the famed ManU midfield four.

Quite opposite is Ronaldinho who was out of this world for 4-5 years, but then dropped like a fly after the 2006 World Cup. People end up mistaking Giggs longevity for his eliteness as a player. He was never a world beater even in his prime. But he was consistently good.

I'd say he deserves a spot in the top-10/top-15 for his consistency but he's become highly overrated with all the GOAT talk.

Thanks I missed the 90s it's hard for me to judge these lists

There’s been loads of very good players in prem history

some haven't made that list

Berbatov being an example, his prime in prem years was better than any season Giggs had

I get the Impression he was a dangerous player when he had pace but never a top player in his position like say pires or hazard was

Cantona, Shearer, Giggs, Henry.

Thought I saw Cantona already listed.

There's no consistency in that list.

You have journeymen like Milner in there because of how long he's been around, but then include Modric who had at best 2 top seasons at Spurs ahead of players like Gilberto Silva, Fernandinho, Carrick and Alonso who did it over many and won titles.

Similarly how can you then put Suarez at 34 after he really only had 2 world class seasons in the Prem, and then not even include Torres or Diego Costa.

It's a joke of a list.

I didn't expect the Atheltic to come up with such a poorly thought out list. It's not different than English pundits wanking off to Gerrard and Lampard in every discussion about good midfielders.

Ljungberg isn't even there. Cesc is way too low. Suarez gets in for his sheer talent but he was in no way better than van Persie in the Prem.

Bergkamp is easily top-5. He's shoved at 15th.

At least they put Lamps & Gerrard well above Scholes which is 100% right

Are we going to see the infamous 'Klopp Syndrome' next season ? aka. the Klopp Flopp ?

Liverpool are so reliant on work rate. As we saw in his final season at Dortmund. If the players can't maintain that they will get picked apart.

The lack of break this summer may be significant for Pool.

City
Chelsea
United
Arsenal

Like that.

Why is there no live feed for our friendlies, not even live tweeting. Very unusual.

It is bizarre tbh. Great chance to get the fans engaged and also make a bit of money.
