Referee bias in penalties?

Apparently, Leicester have had the most penalties awarded of any PL team this season, with more than Double the second team on the list. Joint second is Tottenham Hotspurs.

So have referees inadvertently been favouring Leicester because of the narrative?

Seems a very weird thing tbh

No.

The more you attack > the more you play in your opponents half / penalty box > the more you play in your opponents penalty box, the chances of someone doing a stupid foul and giving away a penalty rises

City are nowhere near the top, and have been nowhere near the top for the past few seasons. They had 7 in 2013/14 which is weird, since they scored over a 100 goals in one of those seasons, so you'd assume they'd be near the box

I remember a comment when watching the Arsenal game about Leicester and how many penalties they get.

To be honest, my view is they are playing for them and get them. That is only judging by the weekend game and stats though.

I don't think the referees are biased towards them. I think the players play for them and get them given most times.

The fact that Leicester are winning lots of penalties isn't enough on its own to suggest bias. They have a lot of fast, skilful forward players who are likely to provoke defenders into making a mistake. You'd need to evaluate each penalty decision individually to come to any sort of conclusion and even then I highly doubt there is a bias.

October 3 Leicester- Norwich
Minutes later, however, the visitors did get the goal their control of the game deserved, albeit in controversial circumstances. Vardy looked to have miscontrolled before going down in the penalty area under pressure from Sébastien Bassong, but the referee, Mark Clattenburg, decided the defender had clipped his heels first, and Vardy sent Ruddy the wrong way from the spot.

From The Guardian

Then 19th December, 2 penalties against Everton
Missing key players to injury and suspension, the visitors dug in when they had to, were clinical when opportunity arose and received the benefit of the doubt from the referee at vital moments. Their commitment to the cause was unquestionable.

Bournemouth
For Bournemouth there was a sense that justice was done with that penalty save, given Simon Francis clearly got the ball when he made a last-ditch attempt to stop Vardy in his tracks as the Leicester striker bore down on goal. Andre Marriner had deemed otherwise, the referee pointing to the spot and showing Francis a straight red card that forced Bournemouth to play the final half-hour with 10 men.

Also a fortunate red in the Bournemouth one

Besides having skillful players, they have a few players who like to run with the ball at pace so when they enter the box they are already in full sprint and any mistake by the defender could result in a pen.

Also their play style of sit deep and launch it forward usually means defenders in 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 1 situations chasing onto a ball.

When was the last time any of our players carried the ball at pace into the box.

Can't remember the Norwich one but questioning the ones against Everton and Bournemouth is plain bullshit.
IIRC the Everton keeper was lucky that he wasn't sent off too ..
