Gibbs is a solid tier two player, if he could play as a back-up to a decent right back he would be worth keeping, however if we want to challenge for trophies we need to improve our back-ups ... if we can sell for 15m and replace with a better player (and there are at least fifty better right backs the him) then we should be looking to do just that ....

What we really need is two quality right backs who can play defence and attack in a 3 5 2 line-up ... that's not going to happen in one window so we might as well keep Gibbs as a back-up .... but he's NOT A STARTER .....

Game for game he has been far better for us than dross like Jenkinson, Chambers and Debuchy, who somehow is still on the payroll.

Newcastle are unlikely to make an approach for Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs, reports claim.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez is searching for a left-back to replace Paul Dummett next season, and was tipped to challenge for Gibbs.

However, ESPN claim Newcastle have been put off by Arsenal’s £15million valuation and have other targets in their sights.

Arsenal could be forced to lower their £15million asking price for Kieran Gibbs with a host of interested clubs so far unwilling to meet that valuation.

Standard Sport understands Watford, Newcastle, Stoke and newly-promoted Brighton have all expressed an interest in the 27-year-old, who is open to leaving the Gunners in search of regular first-team football.

Gibbs started just eight Premier League matches this season and the arrival of fellow left-back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Schalke is set to limit his opportunities further.

However, those clubs keen on signing Gibbs believe his price tag is unrealistic given he has just one year remaining on his existing contract at Emirates Stadium.

Gibbs’ £60,000-a-week wages are also thought to be a potential stumbling block for Brighton as he is understood to be seeking an increase to join a club whose priority will be to avoid relegation next season.

It is believes Gibbs has so far ruled out the prospect of dropping down to the Championship and in any case Arsenal would once again have to lower their fee to enable most clubs at that level to afford him.

Gibbs was hopeful of being selected for Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad – especially with Tottenham’s Danny Rose unavailable through injury – but he missed out in favour of Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand and West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell.

Gibbs is thought to be prepared to sit out the final year of his contract at Arsenal if manager Arsene Wenger indicates he has a genuine chance of winning back his place, but the need to play regularly is exacerbated by a desire to be part of England’s travelling party for next summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.

Who evaluates our players? So we demand 3m for Ospina with 2 years left on his contract and demand 15m for Gibbs with one year left?
I know english tax and stuff, but still it makes no sense. 10m for Gibbs is fair enough. Making profit while improving the LB/LWB position is great business.

Gibbs is a solid PL leftback, who started for us for many years. He's easily good enough for lower PL sides. 15 million is fair imo

"Solid LB" is a bit of stretch but as a bench player who fill in for EFL cup games or when the yearly injury crisis hits, Gibbs is fine. I don't see any particular qualities in his game: Poor positioning, poor crossing, poor shooting, no physical presence, ok tackler, ok passer, good speed, that's Gibbs in a nutshell.

For us, yes

For Newcastle? Their current LB doesn't cross the halfway line, and only defends. Their RB, Yedlin, is an American and defends like an American playing football for the first time. By that standard, Gibbs is mighty impressive. Remember, Yedlin went for 5 million to Newcastle last year, Gibbs is worth at least double that, if not more.

Watford turn to George Friend after refusing to meet Arsenal’s £15m valuation of Kieran Gibbs

Watford have turned their attentions to Middlesbrough defender George Friend after refusing to meet Arsenal’s £15million valuation for Kieran Gibbs.

Standard Sport reported earlier this month that the Gunners may be forced to lower their asking price for Gibbs as a host of interested clubs believed the figure currently quoted is prohibitive to any deal.

Watford were among those interested but they have since focused on other left-back targets with Friend now top of their shortlist.

Middlesbrough are willing to do business for Friend at around £8m. Watford are yet to make a formal offer at that level, however, given Friend is 29 years of age but the transfer is still under consideration by senior figures at Vicarage Road.

Friend started 20 Premier League matches last season as Middlesbrough were relegated from the top flight. He has been at the club since 2012 and is primarily a left-back but can also play at centre-back, which adds extra appeal for new Watford boss Marco Silva.

Arsenal are looking to offload several fringe players as Arsene Wenger reshapes his squad having signed a new two-year contract following their FA Cup Final win over Chelsea.

Gibbs has been made available for transfer with Arsenal looking to offload his £60,000-a-week wages. However, it is believed Gibbs is seeking as much as £80,000-a-week to move clubs – a figure, even in an inflated market place, which puts him beyond reach of most clubs outside the top half of the Premier League.

Nice to see us finally asking for the ridiculous prices that other prem clubs have been asking for. Some lunatic West ham type club will pay that.

Marco Silva is determined to sign Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal.

The new Watford boss has the 27-year-old left-back among his top targets as he bids to reshape the Hornets squad.

Watford are not, however, willing to meet Arsenal’s £15million valuation with just a year left on Gibbs’ contract.

His 'value' is directly related to his contract .... if Walker on a five year contract is worth 40m then Gibbs on a five year contract would be worth +20m .... but on a less than 1 year he's worth maybe 10m at best .... and why pay 10m now when you will get him for 5m next January or free come next June ....

Same goes with Sanchez .... on a five year contract he'd be 150m (he's better than Mbappe) but with less than a year to go we'll be lucky to see half of that .....

Miss-management of the highest order .... rewarded with a two year 20m contract .... you couldn't make it up ......

Spot on, Elite Killer

And then there are other players like Ospina with two years left on their contract we value at 3m.
I don't understand how they even come up with these very random values.

Ospina's is the worst tbh.

He's a pretty solid keeper. Hell, if Claudio Bravo moved, he'd be worth more than that
