Where I'm from, in the 1990s the football coverage was 90% EPL/European Club championships because everything was in English. While they did show La Liga games, they all had Spanish commentary, which the local market didn't want to listen to. Serie A and Bundesliga would only show up on an episode of Trans World Sport.

Things are different now, with networks like BeIn providing English commentary for all European leagues, but the early advantage of the EPL persists.
