Premier League no longer has the best players?

Postby GoonerAlexandre » Thu Mar 19, 2015 12:21 pm

Does the premier league no longer have any of the best players in the World? If we started making an XI today of the whole world combined, how many PL players would really get in?

Imo, if I go for a best XI, it would be mostly filled with players from abroad

For example, going for a 4-2-3-1
Neuer
Lahm Thiago Silva Godin Alba
Schweinsteiger Vidal
Neymar Iniesta Ronaldo
Messi

Well, you might disagree with my XI, make your own, but do any PL players get in it? I might be tempted to have Hazard or Aguero as a sub but even that would be contentious. I can think of a few who might deserve to get in ahead of these two as subs too (Robben, Lewandowski)

Apparently, only 3 players were playing in the PL when they were name in the FIFA team of the year. One of them is Di Maria, and we all know how he flopped at United. True, some shockers in that team but the bigger exclusions are NOT from the PL

Going just by quality of players, you can see that they are either from La Liga or Bundesliga. Hell, even Ligue 1 has more representatives than us.

And this is at a time when the PL is spending far more money

Imo, money is not a main factor, these are too expensive to buy. You spot this talent at a young age. And our clubs seem to be unable to. And ruin any top talent they do get, by not giving them any game time. This is one major reason all English teams are out of the CL imo.

Thoughts?

Iniesta wouldn't be anywhere near a world XI

The point isn't the XI though, it's the fact that no PL player seems to get close to it, except perhaps the odd one

Who'd you replace Iniesta with though?

Ozil, Cazorla, Ramsey, Silva, Rooney, Aguero, Fabregas, Hazard

Maybe's - Eriksen, Coutinho, Oscar

All of the first list are comfortably better imo in that role than Iniesta.

The only proven winner in red and white at this club? Arsene Wenger. Sack the board.

De Gea would probably get in if not for Neuer so I'd say that's close. If not him than Courtois.

I'd put Robben over Iniesta all the time. Don't think neymar should be there either.

Neuer
Carvajal Thiago Silva Godin Alba
Schweinsteiger Vidal
Messi Iniesta Ronaldo
Lewandowski

That would be my team, Lahm hasn't played as much this season and Neymar is still a level below this quality.

To be honest that midfield, anyone of Modric, Alonso, Koke, Kroos, Rakitic, Carzola, Isco or Verratti could be there instead.

Only player who would get in from the premiership is Aguero if he was in better form over Lewandowski, possibly one of Lloris, Coutious and De Gea on the bench and

if Hazard steps up another level, if Alexis isn't made to be burned out with so many games they would have a shout too.

Alba would nowhere near mine
Neuer
Lahm - Thiago Silva - Godin - Alaba
Pogba - Kroos
Robben - Messi - Ronaldo
Agüero

I love Vidal but he ain't done well this season, Lahm with a broken leg is better than 90% of full backs anyway.

No, what the f**k? Rooney and Aguero are strikers! The rest still aren't as good as iniesta, wait, none are even as good as Rakitic and i mean Cesc Fabregas especially with this because they shoved him out the door to get him in his place, great move there on Barca's part.

Can't think of many CM's who have been as good as he has. I think he's a wonderful talent, his technique is impeccable.

Rakitic is a much better player for a start, Verratti, Modric (i now he's been injured) Koke,

I think Pogba is just a fancy haircut and a good player who's hyped because he scores the odd wonder goals from 30 yards. i think it's more the players around him than anything, i watched him against Fiorentina the other day with a fringe squad, no injured Pirlo there and he didn't do anything.

I love Verratti too and I think he will be an unbelievable talent, same with Koke. But I think the potential ceiling for Pogba is unreal; he can become everything Vieira was and more.
