Even though I can count on two hands how many Arsenal games I've seen in the past calendar year, Giroud leaving hurts—definitely more than Sanchez leaving. Giroud was a loyal servant to the club, and I'll remember his time here fondly, no matter his shortcomings as a regular starter. I won't blame him for not being able to replace RVP; I place that blame solely on Wenger.

Farewell, sweet prince :(

People are making it sound like we forced him to sign for Preston North End. He's signed for the league champions FFS; he'll be playing with Hazard, Favregas and an actual DM in Kante.

He has a better chance of being in the CL next season than he does at Arsenal.

No one is making it sound like anything

People are just thanking him for his commitment to the club and saying he'll be missed.

Nobody's saying that .... remember he could easily have refused to leave .... then no Aube .... but he did what was best for Arsenal and for him and he made the move .... we're just appreciating what he did and wishing him a happy retirement .....

He didn't go in the summer when we weren't going to bring anyone in.

But with Auba coming in, he did leave. Appreciate that. His biggest contribution to Arsenal is leaving

He was a £12 million signing that knocked in over 100 goals. Some very important ones aswell as some cup winning assists. Often the scapegoat but he gave his all for the club and continued to battle on time and time again to silence his critics.

Nothing but praise for him. Left us with some fantastic memories. Great servant to our club.

Au revior, Oliver!

You could say the same for Theo Walcott.

Count his goals as a winger and his contribution over the years matches Giroud's.

I don't see anyone shedding tears for him though.

Maybe the fans just don't like the way his agent negotiate his contract with us. Especially the last one.

This doesn't feel like a Cashley or Fabregas thing. I'm not angry that he has gone, just sad that Wenger sold him. We had PEA bought and paid for, we didn't need to sell Giroud for any reason except to give him game time for the WC (and even then it should have just been a loan). I'm sure the fans will still give him a good reception because he clearly didn't leave for money.

Ok, thats nice. Look at the criticism Ozil gets by some of the very same people on this thread that are defending Giroud. Ozil cost circa £40m, peanuts considering the fact he was the defacto most creative attacking midfielder with records stats, in Europe, at the time we bought him. Look at his stats for Arsenal:

37 goals. 62 assists (source ESPN soccernet).
Ozil has scored or created 99 goals for Arsenal. Where is this very same respect for Ozil that is being shown by some to Giroud ?! Double standards much.

He was a weird player for us. Meaning, most of us knew we needed slightly better, but toward the end of his time here it was hard to argue against him as he came on numerous time to score crucial goals for us, and some absolute beauties too. Always seemed loyal and fought hard for the badge. So for me, you hate to see his time with us end the way it did. Yes there were many times he was very frustrating to watch, but I think the good out weighed the bad for the most part. Good luck to him personally, not against us though of course.
