Afobe joins MK Dons on loan



Benik Afobe has joined League One side MK Dons on loan for the 2014/15 season.

The 21-year-old forward has enjoyed a prolific pre-season with the Gunners, scoring a penalty in the first team’s 2-0 victory over Boreham Wood FC on July 19 and netting twice for an Arsenal XI side against Harrow Borough the following weekend.

An England under-21 international, Afobe has previously spent time on loan with Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall, Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Huddersfield Town.

He featured 12 times for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship last term.

Afobe heads to stadiummk to gain further first-team experience.

Looks like a loan move just to run down his contract now and to find himself a team in the Championship. Shame because a couple of years ago it looked like he'd be the one but AGAIN injuries cost another one.

I didn't think he was going to make it recently. Not too long ago Barca were sniffing around for him but he stayed at Arsenal. His loan move at Huddersfield was hit and miss and I saw quite a lot of him there (still young though). Didn't really do that well at Sheff Weds (or at his other loan deals) and I thought that was it for him.

This year seems to be now or never though and even though its League 1, his name is always popping up on the vidiprinters. Must be about 9 goals in 10 games this season?

Probably won't make it at Arsenal but he seemed a likeable lad and hope he goes on to have a good career in the top division still.
