Forward Alexis Sanchez might be sold by Manchester United at the end of the season if his form does not improve, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has told BBC Radio 5 live.

Sanchez, 29, reportedly earning £391,000-a-week, has yet to show the form he produced at Arsenal before leaving for United in January.

"If I was a businessman, I'd see how it goes for the rest of the season then look to offload," Wright said.

"It's because of the wages he's on."

The Chile international impressed on his debut for United, in the FA Cup against Yeovil last January, but has since delivered mixed performances, scoring only three goals in 23 appearances.

Wright told 5 live's Monday Night Club: "For me, right now, if United had paid money for him they'd be thinking: 'How are we going to get that back?'

"Sanchez will have to take a hit on his weekly wage [if he joins another club]. Nobody will pay a fee for him, because of the way he's playing."

The former Barcelona forward has played in five games for United this season, but was dropped for last week's 3-0 Champions League win over Swiss side Young Boys, in which his replacement Anthony Martial scored.

Sanchez replaced the French forward for Saturday's 1-1 Premier League draw at home to Wolves, but was substituted in the 63rd minute.

"He does not warrant a place in the team when you have Martial and Marcus Rashford waiting to play," Wright, Arsenal's second-highest goalscorer, added.

"You look at him at United: he's not shackled, he's got freedom. His form will have to kick in to justify a place."

Former Blackburn and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton said Sanchez was "lost and bereft of confidence".

"He's trying, but it's just not happening," added Sutton. "It looks like he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.

"At Arsenal, he played with such a freedom and a smile. I don't see it at the moment. I hope he turns it around."

God knows where his next move would be.

No top club will want him and he'll have to take a huge wage cut.

As amazing as old Sanchez would be in this current squad there's no room for him, Auba has effectively taken his place and we struggle to get Auba and Laca on the same pitch as it is.

I mean who's going to risk paying for Sanchez when he's playing like this?

Probably a combination of depression and Mourinho-ball. He's the richest player in the PL wage and has a worse strike rate than Welbeck. That's gotta sting.

Nobody

Unless he accepts a big pay cut his career is over. He'll spend the rest of his playing days at at Utd getting gradually worse and it could even end in "helping out with the youth team" and other random odd jobs.

Reckon he'll pull a Winston, have a brief spell in the Chinese SL before returning to Colo-Colo or Cobreloa for a final season to subsequently announce his retirement in order to spend more quality time with his family and labradors.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club and manager.

Don't care what happens to the dwarf's career now, as long as he doesn't end up stealing a living in the MLS.

How long is that ridiculous contract that he has at Man Utd?

That’s how long he will stay there.

The way he's playing i don't see anyone paying more than 150k in wages for him and he's on nearly 400k at United?

That guy isn't leaving unless they threaten to gas his dogs.

As for him coming back, i could take the humiliation of taking him back after he stabbed us in the back, if there was a guarantee we'd get the old Sanchez, but there's too much of a risk of him staying trash so stay away.
