Yup. I believe a few years earlier Real Madrid won the CL but finished outside the top 4 and got in at the expense of Real Zaragoza.

Arsenal, Chelsea, man utd, city, Liverpool all have big followings. Better financially for uefa than firoentina getting one of their spots. The it the point being made uefa/Fifa look after their pockets.

I don't think we would take a 4th spot at the expense of the Italians. It would be at the expense of someone in qualifying rounds and I'd guess we would have to have an extra team in the qualifiers.

But that has no direct impact on UEFA

It does when less people are watching their biggest competition. Less people watch, less sponsors pay, less TV companies pay for broadcasting.

Pretty much.

Wouldn't be surprised if at the end of this season if English teams are once again shit, rules are changed somehow to keep us at 4, have Italians at 4 and a spot is taken from I don't know Cyprus or someone.

Don't need to take away anyone's spot... Just have another team in the qualifiers

Pretty much what I think will happen. Not that we deserve it to happen, just what I think and also others it seems.

As mentioned the Liverpool and Everton saga. Everton should have dropped to the UEFA cup as Zaragoza did when they finished fourth in 2000 and Real Madrid finished 5th but rules were changed for English clubs.

Then again Spurs dropped to the Europa League when Chelsea won the Champions League. Not sure the Liverpool example counts when there is a later case with UEFA doing the opposite.

Don't think UEFA would've been allowed to get away with it twice.

If anyone has watched a CL draw and knows how UEFA operates, they micromanage everything. They won't allow the PL to lose a spot.

I think Liverpool situation might have been first time it had happened in the knew format. They weren't expecting it that it is why they let Everton in, obv they changed it as they factored it might happen again.
