Premier League clubs will vote on whether to scrap video assistant referees (VAR) from next season at their annual general meeting next month.

Wolves have formally submitted a resolution to the Premier League which will trigger a vote when the 20 member clubs meet in Harrogate on 6 June.

The club said VAR was introduced "in good faith" but has led to "numerous unintended negative consequences that are damaging the relationship between fans and football".

VAR was introduced in 2019 to help support on-field officials with key match decisions, but there have been a number of controversial incidents involving the technology this season.

"The price we are paying for a small increase in accuracy is at odds with the spirit of our game," read a Wolves statement.

The Premier League said it "acknowledged the concerns" about VAR but "fully supports" technology and will continue to work with referees' body PGMOL to make improvements.

I just wish they were better at using the technology. It's a good idea in principle but considering it's caused more controversy than it's prevented, I think they should shelve it until the technology is better or the use of it is better

I don't understand how in the age of 360degree 8K cameras capable of shooting thousands of frames per second, they don't have the technology to draw computerized lines and make a quick call. Look at how quickly they're able to make VAR decisions i the CL.

VAR in the PL has to go, it's been a farce.

The concensus is that the issue isn't VAR, it is those operating it. That sums it up , whether through incompetence or bias the system isn't being operated properly. As late as last night Newcastle were denied a definite penalty at Old Trafford, whatever about the naked eye how VAR didn't see the foul on Gordon is incredible.
I think a solution lies within UEFA, take VAR out of the hands of PGMOL and put it in the hands of UEFA across all the top UEFA leagues. Then you would have more objective VAR officials, there would be no cover for "pals" like Mike Dean admitted to, no more innuendo or allegations of VAR officials being supporters of certain clubs, who may benefit from other matches and decisions going a certain way.
English officials would be on VAR duty in other leagues. The technology and communication technology are there to do this with minimum fuss. Language barriers could be a potential issue , but not an insurmountable one.

Just scrap it and retrain the so-called Refs.

Good decision, it's not the technology, it's how the refs are using it.

I'd immediately scrap the rule that VAR should only overturn the onfield decision if it's an "obvious" mistake.

It makes VAR officials less likely to call onfield decisions into question and it puts immense pressure on the onfield ref to go with whatever VAR says if they do, because it's supposedly "obvious".

Instead, whenever there's a VAR check, just have the ref run over to the pitch side monitor and let him watch it with the referees in the VAR room and be able to overturn his own decision. At least do it for the critical VAR checks like pens, red cards, goals etc where the game will be stopped regardless.
