I'm seeing fans and media saying he did okay at Arsenal, he should have been given more time and he would be a good appointment for Newcastle. We were conceding 20 shots on goal every game under him. Emery was flippin' useless here.

He's a good manager in Spain where he has no language barrier and can get his ideas across clearly but he's no good for the PL. I suppose Newcastle fans are happy because it's someone other than Bruce and Emery has European experience so they are excited about it. But I scroll down twitter and the same opposition fans that were constantly mocking Wenger are now saying stuff like 'if only you had Wenger back' and 'you took Wenger for granted'. Weird.

Name these games where we conceded 20 shots.

I recall one vs. Watford that ended 2-2. That's preferable to hapless performances like 0-2 vs Brentford, where we struggled to string 2 passes together.

Emery's lowest point at this club is still Arteta's highest ever league finish.

Again, name these games where we conceded 20+ shots.

LOL at your references:
From The S*n:

According to stats from @KeenosAFC on Twitter,

Straight to the trash can.

BBC football has detailed match results for any PL game, including shots + shots on target. Give me the name of the match and I'll find them myself.

dec 2019 vs man city = 20 shots
dec 2019 vs brighton = 20 shots
nov 2019 vs southampton = 21 shots
nov 2019 vs wolves = 24 shots
nov 2019 vs leicester = 19 shots

There are loads more from the first season as well.

Aug 2018 vs Chelsea 24 shots
Oct 2018 vs Fulham 21 shots
Jan 2019 vs Cardiff 19 shots
Feb 2019 vs City 19 shots
Mar 2019 vs Rennais 19 shots
April 2019 vs Everton 23 shots
April 2019 vs Napoli 20 shots
April 2019 vs Leicester City 24 shots

Agree with you here. Emery wasn't good for us but because the standardshave dipped so much, his results don't look as bad when compared to Arteta's.

Going to be honest, for the Geordies I think Howe might be a better fit.

He did well with B'mth with no resources, the world is his oyster up North.

TBH it will be about the money only. They could have a card board cut out with recorded messages for training and it would be as effective as any manager - IF financial cheating is adopted.

He deserves it tbh.

Don't know how he got over looked so badly after Bournemouth when he'd done fantastic for them.

Eddie Howe teams always concede goals. At Bournemouth they were in the top five for conceding goals every year he was there.

All that money and the best they could do is Eddie Howe. :dontknow: He last managed a team in 2020, having resigned after suffering relegation with Bournemouth. :? Oh well, let's see how long he lasts.

Apparently there's a clause in the contract that allows the club to sack him if they are relegated. Not surprised Emery turned it down.

Feel for Howe, real sword of Damocles situation he's in.

Yeah but he took them from League 2 to the Premiership for 5 years on their resources.

He also teaches a passing attacking game, something which is suited when you can afford talented players who can exceed doing that.

You don't need a defensive pragmastist when you can afford the best players.

Good on Eddie Howe.

I think he has the potential to be England's national team coach in the future.

He's a good profile for Newcastle. Not too big, not too rigid. Can play good, attacking football. Defensively, a suspect, but someone who prefers a possession style game.

It's a potential claim to fame for him, this job. England usually produce lousy or mediocre managers. I hope he turns out good. Newcastle fans deserve this reprise.

The immediate future is the problem. And they don't have many talented players.

Makes sense as a checkbook manager. Was at Bournemouth when they had a financial advantage in the lower leagues. Why not go to Newcastle too?
